Job description

The Heavy Equipment Technician/Mechanic is responsible supporting our aggregate plants with the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of heavy machinery and equipment. This includes, but not limited to Front-End Loaders, Haul Trucks, Excavators, Crushers, and Conveyors. You will perform routine inspections, diagnose mechanical issues, and ensure all equipment operates efficiently and safely.
Essential Functions
  • Maintains knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment and light equipment as required
  • Performs repair or preventative maintenance on diesel and gasoline vehicles, including haul trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, and other vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs and maintenance would include work on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines and body components, hydraulic, brake, electrical/electronic and suspension systems, wheels, tires, and undercarriages
  • Reads and interprets equipment condition reports and/or repair orders, communicate with supervisor and/or operator for clarification of defects and discuss preventative techniques with operators to minimize future repairs
  • Ensure the proper safety incident procedures and reporting processes are followed, bringing safety concerns to the attention of the Plant Manager
  • Communicate with management and staff on conditions of equipment, as well as any possible improvements or ideas
  • Perform needed hot work, including welding and cutting
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company's core values, competencies, and skills.

Education Qualifications
  • Required High School or Equivalent

Experience Qualifications
  • Required 3+ years experience in heavy construction, quarry, road construction equipment industry or a related field
  • Preferred Euclid and Mack experience
  • Preferred welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience
  • Preferred proficient with a computer, including the use of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and diagnostic use, using manufacturer provided programs

Skills and Abilities
  • Must maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance
  • Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule
  • Strong communication skills and basic understanding of math
  • Working knowledge of US Aggregates Safety and Operating principles
  • Complete all applicable documentation, recordkeeping, and daily inventory
  • Participate in safety briefings, job briefings, and any other pass on information from team members, management, or customer
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction and follow work rules, as well as take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned
  • Flexibility required; ability to work days, nights, weekends
  • Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Must possess and exhibit excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently to get things done
  • Strong welding, torching, and maintenance skills preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • 2-year technical degree or comparable military training Preferred
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record Required

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • Must have the ability to continuously stand or walk on level or uneven ground
  • Must have the ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairways and incline catwalks
  • Must have the ability to bend, crouch and/or kneel at the waist or knees
  • Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work outside the majority of the time and withstand extreme weather conditions. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather
