How much do agent based modeling jobs pay per hour?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Agent Based Modeling position, and why are they important?
To thrive in an Agent Based Modeling role, a strong background in computational modeling, mathematics, and systems analysis is typically required, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with simulation tools such as NetLogo, AnyLogic, or Repast, as well as programming languages like Python or Java, is highly valuable. Effective communication, critical thinking, and strong collaboration skills help professionals explain complex models to stakeholders and work within multidisciplinary teams. These qualities are crucial for accurately simulating real-world systems, delivering actionable insights, and driving informed decision-making in various industries.
What are some typical challenges faced in an Agent Based Modeling position?
A common challenge in Agent Based Modeling is accurately representing complex, real-world systems with diverse and dynamic agents while balancing computational resources and model simplicity. Professionals in this role often need to validate and calibrate their models with limited or imperfect data, requiring both technical skill and creativity. Additionally, effectively communicating modeling results to non-technical stakeholders and integrating feedback into iterations is a key part of the job. Overcoming these challenges provides rewarding opportunities to contribute to innovative solutions across areas like finance, healthcare, logistics, or social sciences.
What is an Agent-Based Modeling job?
An Agent-Based Modeling (ABM) job involves developing and implementing simulations that model the interactions of autonomous agents within a system. These roles are common in fields like economics, epidemiology, traffic modeling, and artificial intelligence. Professionals in this role use programming and mathematical models to analyze complex systems and predict emergent behaviors. Key skills typically include coding (Python, NetLogo, or AnyLogic), data analysis, and knowledge of computational modeling techniques.

Job description
The Enterprise Effects Division (EED) drives integration of Aerospace's strategic capabilities across the national space enterprise. The division leverages a broad array of engineering disciplines against a dynamic portfolio of programs, customers, and national challenges. EED spans the capability lifecycle from concept and architecture design to performance assessment to application of space-enabled mission effects.
As a member of the Cross-Mission Effectiveness Department, you will provide technical capabilities to support our customers in modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) of space, air, and ground-based systems of systems to investigate architecture and concept of operations (CONOPS) performance in nominal and contested operating environments. MS&A focus areas include agent-based modeling, red vs blue simulations, military utility and capability drawdown, killchain effectiveness, enterprise architecture resiliency, and command and control (C2) evaluation. We support a variety of customers with diverse program portfolios, and we are looking for curious and innovative teammates to help us address our customers' hardest problems!
This 100% onsite position can be filled in either our El Segundo, CA or Chantilly, VA offices.
What You'll Be Doing
- Represent the Cross-Mission Effectiveness Department as a technical authority in your area(s) of expertise.
- Independently lead and contribute to technical analysis projects to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent team deliveries.
- Exercise your expertise in understanding, modeling, and analyzing enterprise-level integrated missions.
- Use and contribute to the development of in-house and commercial/government-off-the-shelf engineering analysis tools and analysis products.
- Develop and present briefings and reports for program offices and customers.
- Mentor junior staff members on technical and professional development subjects and contribute to a learning environment where it is encouraged to share ideas and feedback.
- Travel occasionally as required.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (aerospace, astronautical, mechanical, electrical, or software), computer science, physics, operations research, or closely related technical field from an accredited school.
- 5 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments.
- Technical understanding of space operations, red vs blue simulations, military utility and capability drawdown, killchain effectiveness, enterprise architecture resiliency, and/or command and control (C2).
- Experience in one or more of the following: space systems, space surveillance, spacecraft ground systems, communications infrastructure, command and control (C2), spacecraft maneuvering, space protection, or space-driven killchains.
- Experience with multi-phenomenology remote sensing techniques such as EOIR and radar signal processing, especially in the context of object detection, characterization, tracking, and estimation.
- Experience with one or more software languages that may include Python, C++, or MATLAB.
- Experience leading a team to accomplish an objective.
- Ability to work on dynamic assignments and adapt to changing customer expectations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with effective oral and written communication skills.
- Current Top Secret clearance.
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- An advanced degree in an applicable STEM area or other relevant discipline.
- Experience modeling the space domain using a toolkit or framework such as AFSIM, STK, or GMAT.
- Direct experience with agent-based modeling, red vs blue simulations, military utility and capability drawdown analysis, killchain effectiveness, enterprise architecture resiliency, and/or command and control (C2.
