How much do agency staffing jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for agency staffing in the United States is $18.69, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $14.90 and $21.88 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does collaboration between recruiters and account managers typically work in an agency staffing environment?

In an agency staffing environment, recruiters and account managers work closely together to meet client needs efficiently. Account managers maintain relationships with client companies, gather detailed job requirements, and communicate those needs to recruiters. Recruiters then source, screen, and present qualified candidates based on client criteria. Regular communication and feedback between both roles are essential to ensure a smooth hiring process, address challenges quickly, and deliver the best possible service to clients.

What is agency staffing?

Agency staffing refers to the process where companies use third-party agencies, also known as staffing or recruitment agencies, to find and hire temporary or permanent employees. These agencies source, screen, and often interview candidates before presenting them to the client company. This service helps businesses quickly fill positions with qualified workers, saving time and resources on recruitment. Agency staffing is commonly used for roles that need to be filled urgently, require specialized skills, or are short-term assignments.

What is the difference between Agency Staffing vs Contract Worker?

AspectAgency StaffingContract Worker
CredentialsTypically requires industry-specific certifications or skillsDepends on the role; may require specific certifications or none
Work EnvironmentTemporary placement within client companies, often in office or field settingsSimilar; works on-site or remotely depending on the contract
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by staffing agencies to place workers in various industriesHired directly for a specific project or period, often through agencies or directly

Agency Staffing involves placing workers through staffing agencies for temporary roles, while Contract Workers are hired directly or via agencies for specific projects or periods. Both serve temporary employment needs but differ mainly in hiring process and employment relationship.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Agency Staffing professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Agency Staffing, you need a strong understanding of recruitment processes, talent sourcing techniques, and client relationship management, often supported by a background in human resources or business. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and sometimes certifications such as Certified Staffing Professional (CSP) are typical. Outstanding communication, negotiation, and time management skills help you stand out when liaising between clients and candidates. These skills ensure efficient placements, strong client satisfaction, and a competitive edge in the dynamic staffing industry.
