Description
This recruitment will be used to fill Part-Time and Substitutes positions working 3.75 hours per day, 9 months per year.
Under the direct supervision of the After School Site Manager and the indirect supervision of the Director of the After School Program, supervises groups of students, during indoor and outdoor activities, including homework assistance, nutrition lessons, conflict resolution activities and free play; assists site coordinator in routine preparation and clean-up tasks; supports and promotes the vision of establishing an extended learning opportunity for students; and performs related duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties:
  • Supervises and monitors students to ensure the physical safety and social emotional -growth; establish and maintain a positive learning environment;
  • Provide homework assistance that reinforces classroom instruction;
  • Implements enrichment curriculum lesson plans and activities;
  • Establishes and enforces clear, consistent behavior expectations;
  • Completes verbal reports and written documents on incidents to the site coordinator or designee;
  • Displays a positive attitude towards the program, students, parents/guardians, and other school staff;
  • Daintains and submits accurate records of attendance for assigned group members;
  • Dnsures respectful use of and maintains physical space used by staff and students;
  • Attends and participates in required meetings;
  • Participates in staff development workshops or training sessions; assists site coordinator with routine clerical tasks; and
  • Assists in data collection surveys and assessments.

Typical Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • Graduation from High School or equivalent;
  • Some experience, paid or volunteer, working with children; - or -
  • Such alternative the Personnel Commission may find desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
Basic math; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; the behavior and characteristics of school age children; and the basic principles of good discipline techniques.
Ability to:
Learn, and understand the characteristics and developmental constraints of school age children; learn and apply the basic methods used in classroom instruction and discipline; learn, understand and apply rules, regulations, procedures, policies and professional expectancies; perform a variety of clerical duties; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; and establish, promote and maintain effective working relationships.
