Job description

Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO)
We are seeking a seasoned, motivated, and detail-oriented Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) to support multiple clients across the United States. This is a part-time, remote position for a security professional who can work independently, quickly adapt to client-specific requirements, and consistently provide high-quality industrial security support during established business hours, Monday through Friday, based on client needs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial security, be experienced with DCSA systems and processes, and be comfortable supporting a range of security requirements for both possessing and non-possessing facilities. Travel is expected to be minimal to none.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct, prepare for, and support Security Vulnerability Assessments (SVAs) and other DCSA-related security reviews, as required.
  • Advise client leadership and internal stakeholders on security requirements, violations, and corrective actions to maintain compliance with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) and other applicable regulations.
  • Prepare, maintain, and manage required security documentation, records, and forms, including personnel security files for employees, consultants, and contractors.
  • Conduct self-inspections and evaluate internal security processes to ensure ongoing compliance with NISPOM and related security requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day security support for collateral, sensitive, and SCI activities.
  • Conduct initial security briefings, annual refresher training, and security awareness training for cleared and uncleared personnel, including insider threat awareness.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for visit authorization requests (VARs) and maintain strong working relationships with client security representatives and contract personnel.
  • Support onboarding activities by administering clearance transfers, initiating security submissions, and maintaining personnel records in applicable government systems.
  • Manage and maintain personnel security actions within DISS, NISS, NBIS, and related security platforms.
  • Support clients with facility clearance sponsorship, FOCI mitigation, compliance efforts, and DCSA audit readiness activities.
  • Assist in the administration and maintenance of Foreign Ownership, Control, or Influence (FOCI) mitigation measures, agreements, and associated reporting requirements, as applicable.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Must have 3+ years of experience providing FSO, AFSO, CSSO, or related industrial security support for a government contractor supporting Department of Defense or Intelligence Community programs.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of NISPOM requirements and related government security regulations.
  • Must be seasoned and fully proficient in the use of DCSA systems and processes at the time of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience with personnel security, facility clearance processes, eApp, and government security systems such as DISS, NISS, and NBIS.
  • Experience supporting DCSA inspections/audits, facility clearance sponsorship, and FOCI mitigation activities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt quickly to client-specific requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of relevant FSO training courses, including:
    • IS020.CU - Non-Possessing Facilities
    • IS030.CU - FSO Program Management for Possessing Facilities
    • ITPSO training
  • Knowledge of ACCS.
  • Current membership in NCMS.
  • Industrial Security Professional (ISP) certification.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and client personnel.
