Position Summary
The Solar & Bess Technician III is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities and associated substations in Puerto Rico. This role performs preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities on plant equipment while ensuring compliance with company, safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive, corrective, predictive, and emergency maintenance on solar plant equipment, including PV modules, inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, transformers, and AC/DC electrical systems.
  • Inspect, operate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and electromechanical equipment to maximize plant performance, reliability, and availability.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of substations, medium-voltage systems, collection systems, and power distribution equipment.
  • Execute switching, clearance, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and operational procedures as required and authorized.
  • Monitor plant performance and identify equipment issues, abnormal conditions, and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Complete work orders, inspections, maintenance records, and reports using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of plant procedures, operating instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Support plant operations during normal, abnormal, and emergency conditions.
  • Participate in training, safety programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to support daily plant operations and maintenance activities.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Technical Degree, Associate Degree, or equivalent vocational training in Electrical, Electromechanical, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, Renewable Energy, or a related technical discipline.
  • English and Spanish communication skills are mandatory.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical maintenance, power generation, industrial facilities, utilities, renewable energy plants, or similar operational environments.
  • Experience in utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, including AC/DC circuits, transformers, breakers, switchgear, protection systems, and power distribution equipment.
  • Experience performing preventive, corrective, and troubleshooting maintenance on electrical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, one-line drawings, technical manuals, procedures, and equipment documentation.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices, lockout/tagout (LOTO), switching procedures, and safe work standards.
  • Familiarity with solar plant equipment such as PV modules, string or central inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, and collection systems is preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
  • Valid Puerto Rico driver's license and ability to travel locally between plant facilities, if required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical activities including walking long distances, climbing ladders, lifting equipment, and working at heights when necessary.
  • Availability to work overtime, respond to emergency call-outs, and participate in on-call rotations as required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience operating or maintaining utility-scale solar power plants.
  • Experience with substations and medium-voltage electrical systems.
  • OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR, or other relevant safety certifications.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, plant monitoring platforms, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with SMA, Hitachi, Power Electronics, Nextracker, Array Technologies, or similar solar technologies.
