The Harding Street Station plant was a coal fired generating station converted to gas with additional simple cycle gas fired turbines operated by the site staff.
This job is responsible for working with the commercial team to provide safe, reliable, and cost-efficient power to the MISO RTO of the bulk electric system in the US SBU. The customer base is the regulated Indianapolis, Indiana footprint. The position ensures PTC contributions to AES are maximized through effective control of cost and the disciplined approach to the capital investment strategy focused on managing cash and return on investment. This position is responsible for directing a workforce of AES personnel, operational contractors, and collaborating with the cross-functional teams supporting the site in a matrix organization. The primary function of this role consists of coordinating the safety, environmental, operational, engineering, maintenance, and general administration of the power plant and its personnel with an emphasis on safety and environmental compliance, cost, and reliability. This is accomplished by evaluating and implementing innovative solutions to maximize plant safety and operational performance while adhering to company polices and state and federal regulations. The position is a steward and teacher of our shared values, responsible for fostering beneficial external relationships, and the development of leaders through succession planning for all plant positions.

  • Direct and develop a workforce comprised of ~100 direct people and ~30 to 250 sub-contractors.
  • Define the strategy and tactical plan to meet Corporate/SBU visions.
  • Lead the development of strong safety and environmental cultures.
  • Develop annual capital, KPI, and O&M budgets.
  • Manage $20M O&M; $20M Capital; $10M Planned Outage; and $28M head count budgets
  • Meet or exceed performance KPIs.
  • Manage the plant headcount through effective recruiting and staffing processes.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for functional groups working within the plant.
  • Mentor and develop future talent to meet succession plan targets.
  • Develop and implement training as required by regulatory and company procedures and to improve skills and knowledge of the workforce.
  • Review and examine reports, analyses, logs and records related to safety, environmental permitting, operations, cost, and work progress.
  • Use company applications to complete human resource, accounting, labor relations, purchasing, and safety and environmental transactions.
  • Implement world class work flow processes and systems.
  • Provide information for reporting purposes.
  • Participate on steering committees and business teams as required.
  • Coordinate compliance audits with internal and external auditing functions.
  • Complete action items developed from different initiatives.
  • Support portfolio platform initiatives.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering; MBA or a related discipline are preferred.
  • 10 years' leadership experience in progressively responsible assignments, demonstrating success in various leadership positions within power plant operation, maintenance and engineering areas.
  • Ability to develop strategic and tactical plans aligned with Corporate and US SBU visions.
  • Ability to develop organizations and people that can perform in a cross-functional team.
  • Working knowledge of environmental, safety, and health processes, procedures, and permits.
  • Working knowledge of financial planning and accounting processes and systems with experience developing 5-year O&M budgets and 10-year Capital budgets.
  • Organizational know-how of performing in a matrix aligned organization.
  • Experience working in a Union labor environment with a working knowledge of labor contracts.
  • Familiar with the FERC/NERC compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of power marketing and GADs reporting.
  • Strong trouble shooting and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of Office 365 applications and SAP.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong social and speaking skills.
