Job Summary
The Distribution Work Plan Coordinator Sr develops, executes, leads, directs, and controls Distribution Work Plans (DWPs). Manages distribution programs, base level assignments, and customer service work within a matrix team environment. Employs safe, efficient, economical, and risk-balanced approaches to plan, initiate, coordinate, and monitor work plans. Completes work in a manner that meets customer expectations, obtains maximum customer satisfaction, and achieve both short and long-range reliability goals. Coordinates available personnel and equipment resources; coordinates function of resource planning and work request reconciliation. Effectively communicates with DWP team to ensure scope of job and plan to complete the work is understood. Coordinates and provides training as needed. Develops relationships with all stakeholders, effectively communicating with internal customers, external customers, team members, contractors, and industry peers. This position does not have direct reports. SCOPE CRITERIA: This is the top-level Distribution Work Plan role within an OpCo and does not have any direct reports. It should not report to a Grade 8 Distr Work Plan Supv as this role has the same strategy and accountability; it is just not managing a team.
Job Description
What You'll Do:
Essential Job Functions & Tasks
  • Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate Distribution Work Plans including work activities, schedule, and budget. Promote Continuous Improvement to improve design, systems, procedures, schedules, and costs in all aspects of the Work Plan.

  • Develop strong understanding of work management and the efficient allocation of distribution work between internal and external resources to achieve stated work plan goals. Develop and apply learned skillsets in strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment and prioritization of work activities.

  • Globally view the work from all angles such as safety, sequence, changing conditions, contingencies, predictability, level of priority, sense of direction, and sense of productivity to quickly identify and to avoid or mitigate risks to the distribution work plan.

  • Develop understanding of the Engineering & Design, Procurement, Contracting, Estimating and Construction processes and begin to influence optimization of a distribution work plan. Begin to ensure team utilizes the latest applicable standard work guidelines and requirements.

  • Provide organization of work activities, delegate work assignments, confidently set team requirements and expectations to manage deliverables and hold team members accountable. Become proficient in providing constructive feedback to team members. Effectively communicate, including the use of effective listening, with all stakeholders including team members, sponsors, management and senior management.

  • Coordinate planning meetings and updates with stakeholders to effectively communicate details of the Monitor & Adjust status of the Work Plan, including providing clear and concise metric reports. Promote continuous improvement and maintain a strong questioning attitude.

  • Ask intrusive questions and challenge assumptions. Seek input from Subject Matter Experts by asking questions for understanding and comparing them with one's own knowledge base. Act with integrity by demonstrating accountability for all work assignments.

  • Support and hold employees and contractors accountable to AEP safety policies and standards, ensuring a safe working environment focused on "Commitment to Zero". Develop effective working relationships with the Work Plan team and operating company staff.

  • Foster teamwork and seek customer satisfaction. Apply conflict management skills to provide solutions to issues that maximize synergies with an overriding goal to do the "right thing" for the company.

  • Become proficient in knowing when to elevate an issue for resolution. Provide effective leadership, team building, and meeting management skills as outlined by the AEP leadership competencies and values. Develop a high level of confidence and demonstrate the motivation and attitude to lead a team and a project to successful completion.

What We're Looking For:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business or related field of study with five (5) years qualified experience.

OR
  • Two-year Associate's degree in the same required disciplines with seven (7) years of qualified experience.

OR
  • HS Diploma/GED with nine (9) years of qualified experience (see below).

Qualified Experience
  • Qualified experience includes work in these areas: major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, and/or comparable external experience in a competitive production environment.
  • Must have a demonstrated understanding of distribution operations, design and construction, as well as fundamental knowledge of stations, control and transmission systems is desired. This includes, but is not limited to, construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management.

Licenses / Certifications
  • Valid state driver's license required.

Other Requirements
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to effectively prioritize work are required.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring interaction with many different people on a daily basis.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Knowledge of capital operating and maintenance budgets and electric utility budgeting systems preferred.
  • Perform work at various AEP locations in varying conditions.
  • Work sites will include home, office, and construction sites for Distribution.
  • Travel, throughout the operating company service area, should be expected on a regular basis.
