What is an AEGD job?

An AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) job typically involves a postdoctoral residency where dentists enhance their clinical skills and gain experience in more complex procedures. These positions are designed for recent dental graduates seeking advanced training in comprehensive patient care, including prosthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery. AEGD residents often work in a clinical setting under the supervision of experienced faculty, treating diverse cases and improving their treatment planning and procedural expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Aegd position, and why are they important?

To excel as an AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) resident, you must have a DDS or DMD degree, foundational clinical dentistry skills, and a strong academic background. Proficiency with dental software systems, digital radiography, and familiarity with advanced dental procedures are essential, along with current state licensure. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a commitment to lifelong learning set individuals apart in this program. These competencies ensure residents effectively manage complex patient cases, collaborate with other dental professionals, and continuously develop their clinical expertise.

What types of cases and procedures can an AEGD resident expect to encounter during their program?

AEGD residents typically manage a wide range of dental cases, including restorative dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, periodontics, and prosthodontics. You will often work with medically complex patients, treat dental emergencies, and gain exposure to implant placement and advanced diagnostic technologies. The role involves collaborating with faculty, specialists, and sometimes other healthcare professionals, offering a comprehensive educational and professional experience. This diverse case mix is designed to sharpen your clinical decision-making and prepare you for independent practice or specialization.

What is the highest paid job in dentistry?

In dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgeons are typically the highest paid professionals, often earning significantly more than general dentists. They perform complex surgical procedures and usually require specialized training and certification, which contributes to their higher income levels.
