Job Summary:

Sells custom-designed specialty benefit packages to clients through direct contact or through insurance brokers, using company/product knowledge to influence customers and assist them in applying specialty benefits to their specific needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with current and prospective brokers and clients via networking and representing the Company at association meetings, trade shows (booths, exhibits) and other functions as required.
  • Develops and maintains understanding of company history/philosophy and services provided and competition. Maintains licensure and industry knowledge through continuing education classes, professional industry memberships/general business periodicals and journals.
  • Educates and advises on specialty benefit packages within assigned sales territory by identifying potential clients using advertising campaigns, mailing lists, and personal contacts with clients and/or through broker relationships.
  • Interviews prospective clients/brokers to evaluate specialty benefit requirements and financial goals and follows-up on sales leads.
  • Develops and delivers sales proposals, closes deals and finalizes contracts for the sale of group specialty benefits in a professional and effective manner. Meets established sales quotas and revenue goals within assigned time frame.
  • Completes and submits request for rates to support personnel for processing proposal information.
  • Participates in sales forecasting and planning as needed. Orients, trains, and assists more junior level staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years progressive experience in health and/or specialty product insurance sales and service.

Professional Certification(s):

  • Current Ohio Department of Insurance License.

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of health insurance products; sales and industry processes including underwriting, stop loss, benefit plan design; health care funding arrangements; and related laws/regulations including HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office and sales and prospect database skills.
  • Good accounting and math skills; ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, discounts, commissions pro-rata.
  • Ability to write business, creative sales, and marketing correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels of employees, groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
