From our space in the Indiana Memorial Union, hospitality staff serve thousands of guests each year through professional dining and retail operations, catered events, conferences, and celebrations, keeping our spaces clean and functional, our food tasty, and our customers happy.
Through meticulous planning and coordination, constant innovation, and a keen attention to detail, IU Catering staff use fresh, seasonal ingredients to deliver spectacular client-driven culinary experiences from piping hot coffee and in-house baked pastries for a meeting of 20 to a sumptuous 5-course meal and elegant custom cake for a wedding of 200 on campus and throughout Bloomington.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Oversees day-to-day sales operations.
  • Works with external and internal clients to schedule event space, and plan catering event.
  • Meets with external clients to detail and outline special events.
  • Creates Banquet Event Orders (BEO's) with menus, pricing, and established timelines.
  • Books meetings rooms and venues, audiovisual and vendors.
  • Works onsite at external events.
  • Oversees day of event execution with the client and catering staff.
  • Occasional support in the catering operations.
General Responsibilities
  • Under close supervision, performs routine administrative tasks related to advertising and sales processes.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and may assist with providing quotes, terms and conditions, and drafting contracts.
  • Distributes bills and contracts, processes payments, and distributes funds to appropriate account.
  • Processes documents into the appropriate university database and verifies that information is correct.
  • Prepares reports of advertising and sales figures.
  • Regularly conveys various product/service and/or advertising options to potential customers and answers basic questions about policies and procedures.

Working Conditions / Demands
