Job description

The Advertising Accounting organization is seeking a highly motivated Principal to serve as a key accounting partner to the Amazon Advertising business. This role is central to strengthening controllership across the organization, with primary responsibility for managing and developing scalable financial controls and processes that simplify monthly reviews, enhance controllership rigor, and enable sustainable growth. You will partner closely with tech, finance, accounting, and business teams to develop long-term strategies and drive new initiatives that support our mission, while working with key stakeholders and central teams to drive global standardization of metric and reporting definitions.

This position requires collaboration across organizations to define financial and non-financial trade-offs in ambiguous environments, ensuring robust financial governance and control frameworks are maintained throughout.
The right individual will have exceptional accounting skills, strong team leadership and people management capabilities, and solid business judgment capable of driving an organization to the right results. They will have operated successfully in a fast-paced, global, results-oriented environment, and have the ability to lead and develop a team while influencing the decisions of senior business leaders through effective verbal and written communication, logical reasoning, and the presentation of alternatives.

The successful candidate will collaborate with partner accounting teams across the US and work closely with business and financial systems teams to support new launches and design and deliver high-impact AI initiatives and productivity improvements. They must be able to think and act both strategically and tactically while building and mentoring a high-performing accounting team.
Key job responsibilities
Deliver accurate financial reporting as the primary accounting leader for the business area, directly influencing senior leaders
Partnering and strategizing with business, accounting, finance, and tax stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination, compliance, and scalability
Owning critical financial reporting deliverables, including 10-K and 10-Q disclosures, and presenting key findings to Advertising senior accounting leadership
Driving AI and automation solutions for operational improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy across accounting processes
Collaborating with business teams to evaluate new contracts and incentives (ASC 606), championing accounting controllership considerations in new business terms and launches
Preparing and reviewing technical accounting memos under US GAAP, ensuring regulatory compliance
Leading cross-functional projects including process improvements, controls enhancement, and integration of accounting processes with Amazon systems
Coordinating quarterly reviews and approvals of estimates, presenting conclusions to senior leadership
Executing quarterly reviews and sign-offs on SOX 404 key controls, ensuring robust internal control framework
