Job description

About Willow Wealth
Willow Wealth is a leading private markets investment platform. We believe that private markets investment products should be a fundamental part of your portfolio. That's why we're expanding access to make it easier to get started. We partner with experienced investment managers to provide investors with a wide range of opportunities across real estate, venture capital, private equity, art, short-term notes, and more. All of our offerings are curated and vetted by our team to help investors diversify away from the stock market.
About the Role
Willow Wealth allocates client capital to a curated set of credit-focused sub-advisors and direct relationships across specialty finance / asset-backed lending (aircraft, consumer, equipment, art, legal, life settlements, receivables, CLO, CRT, CMBS, commercial real estate, residential real estate, mortgage-related securities, structured credit), and other specialty finance sectors.
We are hiring a Director, Specialty Finance Credit to be Willow Wealth's independent credit voice on these strategies. This is not an origination seat; it is a re-underwriting seat. You will take investment recommendations produced by our sub-advisors and independently evaluate the credit case and the fit of the investment for our platform.
Key Responsibilities
  • Scrutinize sub-advisors' underwriting independently
  • Interrogate structure: pressure-test structural elements of each deal
  • Generate recommendations for the firm: you will advise the Investment Committee to accept or reject the recommendation or require additional information from the sub-advisor
  • Diligence the managers, not just the deals: evaluate sub-advisors as ongoing relationships - underwriting standards, loss and recovery experience, portfolio construction, workout track record, and style drift
    • Source additional sub-advisors to broaden Willow Wealth's deal flow
  • Monitor and manage: Work with portfolio analytics team with respect to ongoing monitoring for assigned positions - KPIs, covenant compliance, borrowing-base reporting - and lead watchlist and workout analysis with the sub-advisor when positions deteriorate
Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of experience in specialty finance and asset-backed lending underwriting
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related quantitative discipline
  • Quantitative skills and ability or willingness to implement AI tools to enhance productivity and quality of analysis
  • Independent thinker who is comfortable disagreeing, respectfully, with a sub-advisor's credit case - and comfortable changing their mind when the evidence warrants
  • Intellectual flexibility across corporate cash-flow credit, asset-backed structures, and dislocated liquid credit
  • Collaborative, low-ego team players who leave the firm smarter than they found it
  • Operators at heart - comfortable engaging management teams, sub-advisors, and servicers
  • A disciplined underwriter who can say no: our selectivity bar is high and downside protection is the first consideration
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Returnship / Return to Work Program available: If you have 5+ years of experience but have taken a 2-year or longer hiatus from your career in specialty finance or ABL investing, we welcome your application for this role

What's in it for you
Competitive compensation package, including equity
Health, dental & vision coverage with FSA/HSA options
Unlimited PTO
401k match
Commuter benefit
Life insurance
Wellness stipend
This is a New York-based role. The base salary range for this position is USD 200,000 to 230,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for a discretionary bonus and equity compensation as part of the total compensation package.
