Job description

Job Summary
ย This position is for a high school teacher who helps students learn important life and career skills through Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), with a focus on food, nutrition, and culinary arts. Working under the school principal, the teacher creates a supportive and engaging classroom where all students can succeed. Responsibilities include teaching lessons, tracking student progress, and following school and state guidelines.

The goal of this role is to prepare students for real-world situations and careers by teaching practical skills related to food, wellness, and everyday life.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach hands-on, career-focused classes in food science, nutrition, and culinary arts
  • Help students understand real-life topics such as healthy living, food preparation, and managing daily responsibilities
  • Create and maintain a well-managed classroom and kitchen/lab environment
  • Monitor student progress and adjust lessons to meet different learning needs
  • Support student participation in Career and Technical Education (CTE) organizations and competitions
  • Organize and participate in field trips to colleges, workplaces, and training programs
  • Help develop and promote innovative career and technical education programs
  • Build partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to support student learning opportunities

Qualifications

  • Must have or be eligible for a North Carolina Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching license

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree, or a Postsecondary Culinary Arts Certificate in a related field such as:
    • Family and Consumer Sciences
    • Culinary Arts or Food Service Management
    • Nutrition or Food Science
    • Family and Community Services
    • Hospitality & Tourism Management

Experience Requirements (for certain licensure routes)

  • 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree
  • 4 years with an Associate's degree
  • 6 years with a Culinary Arts certificate
