Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to direct and manage the Chancellor's comprehensive executive communications portfolio, including written, digital, and media-facing communications. The Director provides strategic counsel, prepares executive messaging, oversees the Chancellor's public and digital presence, and coordinates media engagement in partnership with University Relations.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The primary purpose of the Chancellor's Office is to support the Chancellor's leadership of North Carolina A&T in fulfillment of its mission to redefine the public research university for the 21st century as a collaborative and responsive institution making a difference in the lives of students and the communities it serves. The Chancellor serves as the university's Chief Executive Officer, with more than 15,000 students, and 2,500 plus faculty and staff. The Chancellor is the spokesperson providing leadership at local, state, national, and international levels.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in executive communications, speechwriting, media relations, or strategic communications.
Demonstrated experience directly supporting senior executive leadership in a complex organization.
Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex institutional issues into clear and compelling messaging.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Master's degree in a related field preferred. Experience in higher education, government, or similarly complex institutions strongly desired.
Demonstrated political acumen, discretion, and executive-level judgment.
Experience serving as a principal speechwriter for a president, chancellor, CEO, or comparable executive.
Experience managing executive social media presence and media engagement.
Required License or Certification
Is this position eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies.
