Job description

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Educational Services Coordinator, the Secretary will provide a variety of responsible secretarial and clerical services in support of the Educational Services and Alternative Education program.
Spanish and/or Mandarin language fluency is highly desirable for this position.
Job Description / Essential Elements:
Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years of increasingly responsible secretarial and clerical experience. Experience in a School District office setting is preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: functions and activities of a District office environment; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; office management techniques; telephone techniques and etiquette; financial and statistical records-keeping techniques; operation of office machines, including computer equipment, related software applications, including MS Word, Excel and/or Google Docs, Sheets, Forms; policies and objectives of assigned program and activities; applicable sections of State Education code and other applicable laws; basic research methods; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; oral and written communication skills.
Ability to: perform a variety of responsible secretarial and clerical support services; provide information and assistance to students, parents, faculty, administrators, contractors and the public; type at 60 words net per minute from clear copy; work confidentially with discretion; compose correspondence independently or from oral instructions; perform duties effectively with many demands on time and constant interruptions; read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; work independently with little direction; meet schedules and timelines; add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately; maintain records and prepare reports.
