It’s common to work with clients facing setbacks, so being adaptable and empathetic is key. Coaches also collaborate closely with families, therapists, and healthcare providers to create a supportive recovery network. Managing confidentiality while fostering trust and accountability is an important part of the role, making strong communication and problem-solving skills essential.

What is an addiction coach?

An addiction coach is a professional who helps individuals struggling with substance use or behavioral addictions to overcome their challenges and achieve recovery. Unlike therapists, addiction coaches focus on providing practical support, accountability, and guidance through personalized strategies tailored to each client's unique situation. They often work alongside other healthcare providers and can assist with goal setting, relapse prevention, and building life skills. Addiction coaches may work with people at any stage of recovery, from early intervention to long-term sobriety maintenance.

How to become an addiction coach?

To become an addiction coach, individuals typically need relevant education such as a background in counseling, psychology, or social work, along with specialized training in addiction recovery. Certification from recognized organizations, strong interpersonal skills, and experience in mental health or substance abuse settings are also important for credentialing and effective practice.

How much do sobriety coaches charge?

Sobriety coaches typically charge between $50 and $150 per hour, depending on experience, location, and services offered. Some may offer package rates or sliding scale fees based on individual needs and financial situations.

How much can you make as a recovery coach?

Recovery coaches typically earn between $30,000 and $50,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certification level. Salaries can vary based on whether they work independently, for clinics, or in healthcare settings, and some may earn additional income through private coaching or workshops.
