How much do ad hoc driving jobs pay per hour?

As of Sep 4, 2026, the average hourly pay for ad hoc driving in the United States is $37.53, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $24.04 and $44.71 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is ad hoc driving?

Ad hoc driving refers to driving services that are provided on a flexible, as-needed basis rather than as a regular, scheduled position. This type of driving job typically involves transporting people or goods based on immediate or short-term requests, often with varying routes, times, and clients. Ad hoc drivers may work for delivery companies, ride-share services, or as freelance contractors, providing support during peak demand or special events. The role requires adaptability, good time management, and a valid driver's license.

What are some challenges ad hoc drivers typically face in managing unpredictable schedules and routes?

Ad hoc drivers often encounter unpredictability in their work schedules and assigned routes, which can make planning personal commitments more difficult. They may need to quickly adapt to new locations, traffic patterns, and delivery requirements on short notice. Successful ad hoc drivers develop strong time-management and navigation skills, and they maintain flexibility to accommodate last-minute changes. Building good communication with dispatchers and staying organized can help manage these challenges effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ad hoc driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Ad Hoc Driver, you generally need a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and familiarity with local routes and traffic regulations. Experience with GPS navigation systems and, depending on the vehicle type, specific certifications (such as a commercial driving license) are often required. Reliability, time management, and strong customer service skills set exceptional drivers apart. These skills and qualifications ensure safe, timely, and efficient transportation while meeting the varying needs of clients and employers.

What is the difference between Ad Hoc Driving vs Delivery Driver?

AspectAd Hoc DrivingDelivery Driver
CredentialsValid driver's license, clean driving recordValid driver's license, sometimes specific certifications for certain delivery types
Work EnvironmentVaried locations, flexible schedulesSpecific routes, often scheduled deliveries
Employer & IndustryVarious industries, including events, errands, or ad hoc tasksRetail, food, courier services
Search & Comparison IntentYesYes

Ad Hoc Driving involves flexible, often one-time or irregular driving tasks across various locations and industries. Delivery Drivers typically follow scheduled routes for transporting goods or food. While both roles require a valid driver's license, Ad Hoc Driving offers more variability, whereas Delivery Drivers focus on consistent, route-based work.

What is the best paying ad hoc driving job?

The highest paying ad hoc driving jobs typically involve specialized roles such as luxury vehicle chauffeurs, medical transport drivers, or freight and logistics drivers for large companies. These positions often require specific licenses, certifications, or experience and may offer higher hourly rates or per-job payments compared to standard ride-sharing or delivery roles.

Job description

Senior Product Manager

Job Number: 917

This is a remote position

Ad Hoc is a technology company that empowers organizations to deliver scalable, impactful digital services. Using modern, agile methods, our team creates products that meet people’s needs and transform their experience of government.

Work on things that matter

Our collaborations have shaped some of the defining moments in public-sector service delivery. We’ve helped build products that connect Veterans to tailored services, help millions access affordable health care, and support important programs like Head Start. As we work with agencies to deliver critical services, we’re also changing how the government approaches technology.

Built for a remote life

Our culture, communications, and tools are built for remote work, enabling us to bring together top talent nationwide. At Ad Hoc, remote life empowers our teams to design work environments that fit their lives and that foster flexibility and collaboration to achieve positive outcomes for our customers.

Committed to high expectations and a welcoming culture

Ad Hoc values acceptance, accountability, and humility. We aren’t heroes. We learn from our mistakes and improve the process for the next time. We build small, inclusive teams to collaborate closely with our partners to solve the right problems and deliver software that works.

The Veterans Affairs business unit helps transform the VA into a modern digital services organization where Veteran outcomes are at the center of every effort. We partner with the VA to design and deliver seamless user experiences for Veterans, their families and caregivers, and VA employees. By applying better practices in service design, product management, and technology, we enable the VA to increase the use, quality, and reliability of services and decrease the time Veterans spend waiting for outcomes.

About the Role

As a Senior Product Manager, you'll serve as an experienced individual contributor responsible for shaping product strategy, driving cross-functional execution, and delivering meaningful outcomes for federal customers. With minimal oversight, you'll balance strategic vision with day-to-day execution while ensuring product initiatives meet scope, schedule, and delivery objectives.

You'll partner closely with Engineering, UX, DevOps, Business Analysis, and stakeholders to define product strategy, prioritize platform investments, and deliver scalable products that enable enterprise capabilities and improve customer outcomes. Success in this role requires balancing strategic vision with technical execution while navigating complex integrations, APIs, and cloud-based delivery environments.

As a senior member of the product organization, you'll mentor teammates, improve product management practices, and help shape the long-term success of both the program and the broader product discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with customers and Product Owners to define product vision, strategy, and measurable outcomes
  • Lead cross-functional teams through the full product lifecycle, from discovery and planning to delivery and continuous improvement
  • Develop and maintain product briefs, roadmaps, and strategic documentation that align stakeholders around shared goals
  • Translate customer needs, mission objectives, and technical constraints into clear product priorities and execution plans
  • Drive roadmap planning, backlog refinement, and prioritization while balancing competing priorities and tradeoffs
  • Partner with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines, release planning, deployment strategies, and operational excellence throughout the product lifecycle
  • Drive collaboration between Engineering, DevOps, and platform teams to improve delivery processes, reduce operational friction, and increase product reliability
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to influence decisions and achieve program objectives
  • Advocate for user-centered design, Lean product principles, and iterative delivery approaches
  • Partner closely with Engineering, UX, Business Analysis, and DevOps teams to remove blockers and keep delivery on track
  • Support onboarding of new product owners, producers, consumers, and platform partners by establishing scalable processes and documentation
  • Identify opportunities to expand platform adoption by building strategic partnerships across customer organizations
  • Help define and improve onboarding experiences that enable new partners and users to successfully adopt platform capabilities with the long-term goal of self-service
  • Understand complex system integrations, APIs, and platform dependencies to connect products and services across enterprise environments
  • Manage and evolve platform or API-driven products, ensuring integrations and shared services deliver value across multiple customer teams and enterprise systems
  • Collaborate with technical teams to define product capabilities, APIs, integrations, and platform services that enable scalable adoption across the organization
  • Mentor and coach junior Product Managers while helping mature product management practices across the organization

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of Product Management experience
  • Relevant years of experience may be substituted for education
  • 1+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams, including Engineering, UX, Business Analysis, and DevOps
  • Experience developing product roadmaps, managing backlogs, and prioritizing work based on customer value and business objectives
  • Experience identifying and removing delivery blockers while driving products from concept through release
  • Experience working within Agile product development environments using Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or similar methodologies
  • Experience partnering with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines, release planning, deployment strategies, and modern software delivery practices
  • Experience managing platform products, API products, enterprise integrations, or shared services
  • Strong communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CSPO, Certified Product Manager (CPM), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, or other related Agile certifications
