Job Title: Clinical Pharmacist – Pain Management
Location: Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune
Job Type: Contract
Schedule: Full-Time (80 hours per two-week period)


Position Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified Clinical Pharmacist specializing in Pain Management to support services at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune and associated branch clinics. This role involves direct patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and comprehensive medication management for patients with acute and chronic pain conditions.

Services may be required across multiple clinics within a 40-mile radius, with advance notice provided for reassignment (except in emergencies).


Hours & Scheduling
  • Services provided 5 days per week, between 0600 – 1800
  • 8–10 hour shifts with a 30–60 minute unpaid meal break
  • Maximum of 80 hours per two-week period
  • Schedule provided one month in advance
  • Government may adjust schedule with 72 hours' notice
  • No services required on federal holidays

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive clinical pharmacy services focused on pain management
  • Perform:
    • Medication therapy management and reconciliation
    • Pharmacotherapy planning based on physician diagnoses
    • Laboratory ordering and evaluation to monitor therapy outcomes
  • Initiate, modify, or discontinue medications under established protocols
  • Manage chronic disease states (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, anticoagulation)
  • Monitor medications requiring pharmacokinetic adjustments
  • Provide patient counseling on medication use, adherence, and lifestyle modifications
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, nurses, and specialists
  • Support ICU care, pain management strategies, and emergency interventions
  • Conduct adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting in accordance with accreditation standards
  • Provide clinical education and training to healthcare staff

Pain Management–Specific Duties
  • Participate in multidisciplinary pain management teams
  • Conduct medication reviews for chronic pain patients, including those at risk for non-compliance or substance misuse
  • Develop individualized pharmacotherapeutic treatment plans
  • Provide patient and caregiver education on pain management strategies
  • Prescribe therapies in accordance with MTF policies
  • Perform or support non-pharmacologic interventions, including auricular acupuncture (as required)
  • Participate in telehealth, tele-consults, and tele-mentoring initiatives

Minimum Qualifications
  • Degree: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)
  • Education: Graduate from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education accredited program
  • Residency/Fellowship: Accredited by:
    • American Society of Health-System Pharmacists
    • American College of Clinical Pharmacy
      (or equivalent clinical training/experience)
  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in the U.S.

Experience Requirements
  • One of the following:
    • Completion of an accredited pharmacy residency within the past year
    • Minimum 12 months of recent clinical pharmacist experience (within last 18 months)
    • Prior clinical privileges within a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) within the past 36 months
  • Required: Training or experience in pain management

Certifications & Health Requirements
  • Current BLS certification (AHA or American Red Cross – in-person only)
  • Must complete required:
    • Tuberculosis (TB) screening
    • Immunization and health examinations
    • Hepatitis B immunity verification (or approved exception)
    • Annual influenza vaccination

Work Environment & Compliance
  • Services performed at military treatment facilities and associated clinics
  • Must comply with all credentialing, privileging, and federal healthcare requirements
  • Full background disclosure required, including professional and clinical history
