Job description

Wheat Ridge was founded during the 1859 Gold Rush as a rest stop for miners and later named for its golden wheat fields. As unsuccessful miners turned to farming, the area thrived with orchards, vegetable fields, and later, greenhouses, earning the title “Carnation City.” Incorporated in 1969, Wheat Ridge now offers a central location with easy access to Denver and the Rocky Mountains. It operates as a home-rule city with a council-manager government, where the elected council sets policy, and the manager oversees daily operations and budgeting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent professional massage and body treatments.

  • Maintain health history on clients and update prior to each session.

  • Maintain client confidentiality and sensitivity to age and gender related to issues during interaction.

  • Possess the ability to work without direct supervision.

  • Responsible for scheduling client appointments and maintaining own calendar and client list

  • Responsible for rescheduling clients when necessary and communicating room usage to assigned supervisor.

  • Maintain professional appearance at all times.

  • Provide a safe environment for all participants; enforce all general building policies if applicable; complete any necessary reports and forms, i.e., Accident Reports and Health Forms.

  • Maintain all sanitation or sterilization of equipment, room, and other areas as necessary.

  • Responsible for the organization of wellness studio, client’s files, and equipment. Required to set-up and break-down materials used for services if necessary. Perform other related work as required and assigned.

  • Other duties assigned as appropriate by the position.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, therapeutic methods, and techniques fitting wellness service. 

  • General knowledge of the massage therapy, reflexology, Reiki, acupuncture, and/or other wellness therapies.

  • Skilled in public relations   

  • Follow instructions, remain current on the trends of the industry, and communicate effectively to the participants  

  • Analyze situations quickly and determine proper courses of action to be taken and work with little or no supervision.  

  • Certification from a nationally recognized massage, reflexology or acupuncture therapy school as applies to position applying for.

  • Previous instructional experience preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED and First Aid certifications are required at the time of hire. If applicable, must acquire and maintain State of Colorado Massage Therapy license and City of Wheat Ridge business license at own expense.

HOURS OF WORK, LOCATION, AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

This position is part-time and hours will vary according to program needs. Performed in an indoor setting where incumbent may be subject to noise and distraction; requires extended periods of hearing and speaking in a loud voice for up to an hour at a time; requires public relations skills in handling concerns and complaints; entails working closely with others and working with little to no supervision; requires excellent organizational/time management skills. Requires muscular exertion and/or physical strain and frequent concentration on an activity where the flow of work is intermittent or the operation involves little attention or checking; requires ability to use walk, hands to fingers, reach, climb, bend, stoop, crouch and occasionally lift objects weighing less than 24 lbs. Equipment used is what shall be available and necessary to teach and instruct in area of expertise in addition to use of a telephone, copier, and other office equipment to adhere to required policies/procedures.
