Job description

Your Role as the Activity Director

Skilled Nursing

Americare Senior Living is seeking a creative, organized, and compassionate Activity Director to lead resident engagement programs within our skilled nursing community. In this role, you'll plan, organize, facilitate, and direct recreational and therapeutic activities that promote residents' physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being.

You'll also play a key role in documentation and collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure activities align with individualized resident needs and regulatory requirements.


Summary

The Activity Director is responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive resident engagement program, including activity planning, calendar development, documentation, and team collaboration. This role supports quality of life and person-centered care while meeting state and federal guidelines.


This role may also be known as:

Activity Director, Activities Director, Life Enrichment Director, or Recreation Director.


What You'll Do
  • Plan, organize, facilitate, and direct recreational activity programs for residents
  • Develop, publish, and maintain a monthly activity calendar
  • Ensure activities align with resident abilities, interests, and care plans
  • Lead group and individual activities that promote engagement and socialization
  • Participate in resident assessments and care planning as part of the interdisciplinary team
  • Document resident participation, responses, and progress in charts and periodic reports
  • Communicate resident reactions, progress, or regression to medical staff and care team members
  • Coordinate special events, celebrations, and community activities
  • Supervise and support activity staff and volunteers as applicable

What You BringQualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma required; additional education related to recreation, activities, or life enrichment preferred but not required
  • Previous experience planning and managing a recreational activity program in a senior living or healthcare setting preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to document accurately and collaborate with clinical and care teams
Physical Demands
  • Lift up to 25 lbs. and assist with resident transfers as needed
  • Push, pull, and maneuver up to 100 lbs., including resident mobility assistance
  • Maneuver resident wheelchairs weighing up to 350 lbs.
Safety Requirements
  • Follow proper resident handling and safety procedures
  • Utilize required PPE and safety equipment
  • Adhere to safe driving practices when transporting residents
  • Report work-related injuries within 12 hours and complete required documentation
Work Environment

This role is performed in a skilled nursing environment, including resident rooms, common areas, activity spaces, and occasional community outing locations.
