Job description

Description RESIDENCY- Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the application: Livingston County The duties of this position involve providing a diversified activities program geared to the specific interests and needs of residents in a residential health care facility. The program must be designed to offer opportunities for participation in activities with emphasis on providing residents' physical, intellectual, social, emotional and sensory stimulation. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Leisure Time Activities Director.

Supervision may be exercised over the work of volunteers. Does related work as required. Examples of Duties Welcomes and interviews residents to determine interests, hobbies, abilities and leisure time routine; Assists Leisure Time Activities Director in developing individualized care plans, initial interest assessments, completing related portions of Minimum Data Set ("MDS") form and documentation of daily program participation; Encourages participation in and leads leisure time activities for residents in a residential health care facility; Leads residents in a variety of activities involving arts and crafts, music, outings, films, holiday activities, programs and speakers, house newspapers and bulletins, games, resident clubs and pertinent community based services; Develops rapport and works with residents as a resident advocate with other staff and family members; Provides individual activity intervention for those who choose not to attend group activities; Reviews program participation with patients to encourage participation and interest in various activities; Transports residents to attend or to participate in community affairs and outings; Assists residents by transporting them within the facility to various programs of interest; Orders supplies and keeps records and quarterly progress notes; Reacts to emergency life saving procedures; Assists in keeping activity areas and supplies in order; Participates in care plan meetings with other disciplines; and Performs other related duties.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of the organization and conduct of a diversified leisure activities program in a residential health care facility; working knowledge of a leisure activities program for the aged and disabled; ability to design and supervise a leisure activities program for the aged and disabled; ability to supervise aides and volunteers in the functions and activities of a leisure time program; ability to explore and utilize available community resources applicable to a residential health care facility activities program; ability to prepare and maintain records and reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Typical Qualifications (A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one year of experience providing therapeutic or recreational activities to adults; OR (B) Satisfactory completion of a formal training program in adult recreation; OR (C) One year of paid or volunteer experience in creating and leading leisure time activities involving arts and crafts, music programs, games and sensory stimulation suitable to adult recreation activities. Supplemental Information At the time of appointment, must have a valid New York State Driver's License.

Candidates must also have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Candidates will be required to obtain CPR Certification within six months of their hire date, if not in their possession at the time of appointment, and must maintain throughout employment. Activities Aide - NC in County service.
