JAPANMART, an authentic Japanese style convenience store, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Store Manager to work hand-in-hand with the Store Manager to oversee daily operations, streamline processes, and lead talent acquisition. This includes, but is not limited to, hiring, managing and directing of associates to ensure exceptional guest services and reach optimal financial goals.

Position: Assistant Store Manager
Industry: Retail / Food & Beverage
Work Location: The official work location for this position will be at 1107 S Baldwin Ave Ste. B, Arcadia, CA 91007, which is currently under construction. Until construction is completed, this role will be temporarily based at 25 E Foothill Blvd, Arcadia, CA 91006.
Shift & Schedule: Weekdays, Weekends, Holidays 


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the store manager with all things related to daily operations, team leadership, recruitment, and business growth
  • Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned by the Store Manager
  • Help train staff on daily operational standards as well as spearhead comprehensive training programs for staff on Japanese culture, corporate etiquette, and communication nuances to enhance cross-cultural collaboration and workplace synergy
  • Learn and follow all store operation manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist with analyzing and working on Profit & Loss (P&L) reports
  • Monitor that staff are following JAPANMART service expectations
  • Assist in handling customer questions, complaints, and service recovery
  • Help maintain store appearance for seasonal campaigns and special events
  • Support the Store Manager with local marketing activities and Japanese community outreach, special events, and busy launch periods
  • Monitor customer feedback and report trends to the Store Manager
  • Step in as acting lead when the Store Manager is unavailable
  • Escalate performance or conduct issues to the Store Manager as needed
  • Support the Store Manager in contacting, coordinating, and maintaining ongoing professional relationships with Japanese vendors, distributors, and suppliers
  • Assist with receiving deliveries, stocking shelves, and backroom organization
  • Help monitor stock levels, fresh food rotation, product date checks, and notify the Store Manager of shortages or replenishment needs
  • Learn and execute the preparation of all beverages and souffle pancakes according to JAPANMART kitchen standards and procedures
  • Assist in training team members and monitor food and beverage quality to ensure consistency and compliance with JAPANMART standards
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining operational documents and records
  • Notify the Store Manager immediately of any safety, legal, or operational concerns
  • Support implementation of improvements directed by the Store Manager and HQ
  • Support the Store Manager in preparing reports to HQ, including daily sales support data, cash vs credit support checks, customer traffic / peak hour observations, inventory issues such as low stock, shrinkage, or waste, staff attendance and shift-related notes, weekly performance support summary, and monthly KPI support data
  • Help the Store Manager / HQ / accounting by organizing staff hour records, shift corrections, attendance issues, new hire paperwork tracking
  • Assist with timekeeping and attendance tracking for staff, including staff clock-in / clock-out monitoring, reporting missed punches or time errors, supporting break and overtime compliance

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in food and beverage operations and retail store environments
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic understanding of financial concepts, including the ability to analyze and work on P&L reports
  • Knowledge of financial, budgetary, accounting and computational practices
  • Proficient in a variety of technology systems including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and ability to learn and adapt to new systems quickly
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Conversational proficiency in spoken and written Japanese
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Food Protection Manager Certification   

COMPENSATION:

  • Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt Role: $25.96 - $31.73 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and other factors.
