What is an ACLS Instructor job?

An ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Instructor is a certified professional who teaches healthcare providers advanced life support techniques, including CPR, airway management, and emergency cardiovascular care. They follow guidelines set by organizations like the American Heart Association (AHA) to conduct training courses and certify students. Their role includes demonstrating life-saving procedures, evaluating student performance, and ensuring they meet ACLS certification requirements.

What are the typical responsibilities of an ACLS Instructor during a training session?

As an ACLS Instructor, your primary responsibilities during a training session include presenting curriculum material, leading hands-on practice using simulation equipment, and evaluating participants' skills and knowledge in accordance with certification guidelines. You'll facilitate group exercises, answer clinical questions, and ensure all learners understand protocols and best practices for advanced cardiac care. Additionally, you may provide feedback and tailored coaching to participants and handle administrative tasks such as managing class rosters and issuing certification cards. This role often requires collaboration with other instructors and coordination with training site staff to provide a seamless learning experience.

How to be an ACLS instructor?

To become an ACLS instructor, you must first be a healthcare professional with current BLS certification, then complete an AHA ACLS provider course followed by an instructor course. To thrive as an ACLS Instructor, you need advanced knowledge of cardiac life support procedures, professional medical experience, and current ACLS Instructor certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or an equivalent body. Familiarity with training equipment such as manikins, simulation software, and digital learning platforms is essential. Strong communication, leadership, and the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure that instructors can deliver engaging, hands-on training sessions that meet standards and prepare healthcare providers to respond effectively in critical situations.

Is a CPR instructor a good side hustle?

A CPR instructor, including those certified to teach ACLS courses, can work as a flexible side job by conducting training sessions for healthcare providers or the public. It typically requires certification, good communication skills, and the ability to schedule classes outside regular work hours, making it a viable part-time opportunity for qualified individuals.
