JOB SUMMARY
Provides overall organization and coordination of educational and Quality Improvement/Quality Control activities within all Perioperative Services areas. Provides supervision, education and clinical training to all Perioperative Service positions and ensures competency, continuing education and professional development for staff. Communicates and collaborates with other healthcare team members. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, regulatory/accrediting body requirements, and professional practice standards. Care will be provided to patients of all ages from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult to geriatric.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists the Director of Perioperative Services to meet the educational needs of the department through assessment, identification of educational outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs.
  • Develops, implements and maintains an effective unit-based orientation program for all nursing staff and ancillary staff members.
  • Assists in the development of preceptors to orient and train new and tenured personnel and faculty.
  • Assists to maintain personnel files re: orientation, performance appraisal /competency process and attendance at professional presentations, seminars and in-services.
  • Contributes to the performance appraisal process through coordination and evaluation of competency behaviors/ criteria for nursing staff and ancillary staff members.
  • Schedules and facilitates monthly in-services for new equipment, procedures, services and medications based on departmental needs.
  • Acts as a clinical and technical resource in the learning activities that support the nursing staff, students, and ancillary staff members.
  • Obtains, organizes and develops reference material/ tools to meet the needs of nursing staff, students and ancillary staff members.
  • Assists to develop, review and revise policies, procedures, and protocols within area of responsibility.
  • Assists to develop and implement quality improvement, quality assurance and customer satisfaction initiatives that support a safe environment, regulatory expectations, reduction of risk, and positive clinical outcomes.
  • Utilizes adult learning principles and facilitates a positive learning environment to teach technical and clinical skills.
  • Acts as a liaison between Perioperative Services and Education Services Departments.
  • Represents Perioperative Services on appropriate external committees and functions in collaboration with Director of Education.
  • Utilizes Ohio Nurses Association (ONA) Providership for continuing education provision of contact hours in collaboration with Education Services Department.
  • Collaborates with Education Services Department to provide ACLS, PALS and BLS courses.

Requirements Include
    • Graduate of an accredited program for nursing education, BSN preferred.
    • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Ohio .
    • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification required.
    • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider certification required, ACLS Instructor certification preferred.
    • PALS required or obtained within one year of hire.
    • CNOR required or willing to obtain within two years of hire.
    • Minimum of 3 years O.R. experience preferred.
    • Prior experience in a nurse educator role preferred.
