Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations supporting the organization's business entities. This position provides technical accounting leadership while ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, month-end close activities, internal controls, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
The Accounting Manager serves as a strategic business partner to Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and executive leadership by providing financial analysis, supporting operational decision-making, identifying process improvements, and strengthening financial controls across multiple manufacturing entities.
This position is responsible for establishing departmental priorities, coordinating accounting activities, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement while supporting the organization's financial objectives.
Essential Job Functions
  • Lead and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities across multiple legal entities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Coordinate and prepare weekly financial reporting packages, supporting schedules, and detailed financial analyses for executive leadership and the organization's international ownership group.
  • Review, prepare, and approve complex journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and adjusting entries while maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, management reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), and variance analyses to support executive decision-making.
  • Maintain responsibility for balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and timely resolution of accounting discrepancies.
  • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure accurate inventory accounting, cost accounting, inventory reconciliations, cycle count programs, and annual physical inventory activities.
  • Partner with Finance leadership to develop annual operating budgets, periodic forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial analyses supporting strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal accounting policies, and applicable federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate internal audits, external audits, tax reporting, sales and use tax compliance, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, capital project accounting, and capitalization policies.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement process improvements that strengthen accounting operations, improve efficiency, enhance internal controls, and support ERP optimization, financial system enhancements, reporting automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to improve financial visibility, operational reporting, and overall business performance across multiple operating companies.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, and review accounting activities to ensure departmental objectives and reporting deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, mentoring, and leadership to accounting staff while fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation that promote consistency, compliance, and operational excellence throughout the enterprise.
Additional Duties
  • Employees may be required to perform additional duties outside the primary responsibilities described above in support of departmental objectives, special projects, acquisitions, ERP implementations, business integrations, and other organizational initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years supporting manufacturing or multi-entity accounting environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex month-end close processes and financial reporting.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience utilizing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience performing full general ledger accounting and preparing complete financial statements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Experience supporting multiple legal entities within a manufacturing organization.
  • Experience leading ERP implementations or financial system enhancements.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading accounting professionals.
  • Public accounting experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing accounting, inventory valuation, standard costing, and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, internal controls, and financial reporting best practices.
  • Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze complex financial information.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP functions, financial modeling, and data analysis.
  • Experience utilizing ERP systems and financial reporting applications.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining exceptional accuracy.
  • Ability to effectively partner with operational leadership and executive management.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, mentoring, and collaboration skills.
