POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Property Accounting will oversee the Property Accounting team and all accounting operations and financial reporting for DPG's portfolio of commercial and multifamily residential properties. This role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, maintains compliance with accounting standards and ownership requirements and provides leadership and guidance to the property accounting team. The position partners closely with operations, asset management, and executive leadership to support financial performance and operational efficiency. They should possess a strong working knowledge of all aspects of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ensure all accounting practices follow these principles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for a portfolio of commercial and multifamily properties
  • Review, analyze and approve property-level financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation and review of annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations
  • Serve as a key resource for financial reporting issues, audits, and operational accounting matters related to managed properties for Operations, Asset Management and Clients
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop Accounting team, fostering professional growth and ensuring high-quality performance
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, company policies, and reporting deadlines across the property accounting function
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within the accounting department
  • Partner closely with Operations and Asset Management teams to develop annual operating budgets, forecasts, and periodic reforecasts, providing financial insight and recommendations
  • Maintain strong cash management and reconciliation process
  • Manage the annual year-end audit process and coordinate tax preparation activities with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Oversee treasury management functions, including maintaining banking relationships, opening and closing accounts, implementing fraud prevention measures, and ensuring appropriate cash management controls.
  • Direct and oversee the reserve replacement draw process, ensuring compliance with lender requirements and timely funding of approved capital projects.
  • Lead the quarterly distribution process for managed properties, ensuring accurate calculations, timely approvals, and distribution of funds to ownership groups and investors
  • Support the development of short and long-term company growth strategies
  • Other duties/responsibilities/special projects as assigned
ESSENTIAL SKILLS

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent degree or equivalent education, training and experience required
  • CPA license and/or CMA certification preferred
  • A minimum of 7+ years of accounting experience, preferably in multifamily residential or real estate property management
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
  • Experience with accounting/operating software such as Real Page, Yardi, MRI
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (advanced Excel user)
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This job may require you to lift up to 20 pounds, such as computer or printer equipment, files, etc.
  • This position works within an office environment and will mainly be sitting at a desk and regularly utilizing a computer/keyboard and phone. After the initial training period, this position may work remotely part time.
  • Technological aptitude to support virtual communications and organizational management.
  • Reading, writing, and researching are regular components of this position.
