Company Description

About Propra

Are you looking to transform an industry stuck in outdated systems and processes? Join Propra, an early-stage tech company based in Calgary, on a mission to put property management on autopilot.
Propra is reimagining property management by using technology to alleviate the administrative burden for landlords and property managers. We don't just provide software; we provide managed accounting services to run our clients' financials for them.
We are a small, highly skilled, and passionate team dedicated to solving complex problems in the real estate space. At Propra, we actively reject the bureaucratic red tape that stifles creativity and growth in traditional corporate environments. We don't put our people in a box. Instead, we offer a highly collaborative culture where your ideas matter, your growth is uncapped, and you can find deep professional fulfillment by making a tangible impact on the product and the industry every single day.

Job Description

As our Property Management Accountant, you will take extreme ownership of our managed accounting services. You will act as a dedicated financial consultant for our clients, running their books while simultaneously guiding them through our software.

Because many of our clients are accustomed to outdated processes and may lack deep financial literacy, this role requires a unique combination of high EQ, extreme patience, and the professional authority to educate them and firmly enforce proper accounting standards.

You will manage complex portfolios, including rental property payouts, condo corporation financials, and corporate administrative accounting, where strict compliance with Canadian trust law is paramount. Furthermore, as a core member of an early-stage tech team, you will be expected to push our software to its limits and act as a vocal advocate for continuous product improvement.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Client Relationship Ownership: Actively manage and take initiative in the client relationship. Educate clients who may be unfamiliar with rigorous financial standards, and firmly but professionally guide them toward accounting best practices.
Full-Cycle Property Management Accounting: Execute precise accounting on behalf of our clients, including rental property owner payouts, condo corporation financials, owner-operator financials, and corporate administrative accounting for property management companies.
Ensure Strict Compliance: Navigate the nuances of Canadian trust accounting laws. You will be the gatekeeper of accuracy, ensuring that all financial entities and client accounts are flawlessly maintained and legally compliant.
Drive Product Innovation: Do not just use the software; help improve it and build new features. Actively troubleshoot new processes, identify gaps, and be a constructive voice in suggesting new features to the engineering team to make our platform more intuitive.
Total Portfolio Management: Operate with an entrepreneurial mindset. Go beyond the bare minimum to ensure deliverables are met, clients are retained, and you are actively contributing to the overall success of the platform.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 2-3 years in full-cycle accounting, preferably with exposure to property management, real estate, and/or condominium accounting. Previous experience working in an early-stage tech environment is a strong asset.

  • Startup Mindset: You are highly motivated, self-directed, and excited by the fast-paced, ambiguous nature of early-stage tech. You want the freedom to creatively solve problems without bureaucratic roadblocks.

  • Client Management Skills: Exceptional patience and strong communication skills. You are highly capable of dealing directly with a diverse client base, translating complex financial concepts into simple terms, and holding firm on professional standards.

  • Subject Matter Knowledge: A strong understanding of (or a highly motivated willingness to learn) Canadian real estate trust laws and the distinct financial entities within property management.

  • Tech Savvy: You are comfortable navigating new software features, learning on the fly, and adapting to rapidly evolving tools and integrations.

  • Education: Degree or diploma in finance, accounting, business administration, or equivalent professional experience.

Additional Information

At Propra, we value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We thank all applicants for their interest, but only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Please note that successful candidates may undergo a security screening, including a criminal records check.
