Accounting Manager
Position Summary
San Diego Rescue Mission Downtown San Diego, CA
Full-Time Exempt On-Site
Compensation: $90,000-$96,000 annually (DOE)
The Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the San Diego Rescue Mission, including month-end close activities, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, account reconciliations, cash flow analysis, and audit support. This position also provides leadership and oversight to accounting staff while helping drive continuous process improvement within the Finance department.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management
  • Develop a thorough understanding of departmental spending patterns and financial trends.
  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain month-end closing schedules and journal entries.
  • Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee monthly bank reconciliations and account analyses.
  • Support weekly cash flow reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating financial forecast scenarios.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and ongoing financial planning processes.
  • Provide guidance and support to department leaders regarding budget and forecast questions.
Audit & Compliance
  • Assist in supporting schedules, confirmations, and adjusting entries as required.
  • Help ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, internal controls, and organizational policies.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Supervise and support accounting staff
  • Review accounts payable transactions and payment processing activities.
  • Provide guidance regarding expense coding and credit card reconciliation issues.
  • Promote accountability, accuracy, and professional growth within the accounting team.
Other Duties
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Finance Department and Mission objectives.

Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience managing accounting staff.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting.
  • Experience working within a faith-based organization.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct.
  • CPA designation or CPA-track candidate preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
