Accounting Assistant
Grand Rapids, MI (Hybrid)

Our client is a well-established nonprofit religious organization in Grand Rapids seeking an Accounting Assistant to join their team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys reconciliation work, thrives in a relaxed and supportive environment, and is looking for strong work/life balance with a hybrid schedule. The organization offers a very laid-back culture with casual dress (jeans daily), a beautiful newer office building, and a genuinely kind and collaborative team atmosphere.

Responsibilities
  • Perform weekly bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation variances and discrepancies
  • Manage reconciliations involving checks, ACH, cash activity, credit cards, and daily bank sweeps
  • Work within multiple entities and general ledgers
  • Assist with more complex credit card reconciliations
  • Pull documentation and create reports for upcoming audits
  • Support audit preparation activities during fiscal year-end
  • Follow established SOPs and written work instructions
  • Work within multiple banking platforms and accounting systems
Qualifications Required
  • 1–2 years of accounting experience with a focus on reconciliations
  • Understanding of reconciliation processes and ability to investigate discrepancies independently
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Comfortable asking questions and problem-solving
Preferred
  • Sage Intacct experience
  • Audit exposure or audit preparation experience
  • Google Workspace experience
  • Experience using AI tools to improve efficiencies and workflows
