Job description

Brandt Corporate Services Ltd. is seeking an Accountant to join our team in Calgary, AB location. This role is part of our Transportation division and reports to the Manager, Accounting. The accountant will partner with internal departments and branches across Canada to provide full-cycle accounting support and analysis. The role is hands-on support of the accounting function as well as Operations.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create monthly branch and departmental financial statements
  • Reconcile GL accounts and prepare month end journal entries with supporting documentation
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balancing transactions on a daily and weekly basis
  • Work with different divisions for intercompany processing and reconciliation
  • Explain accounting reports and processes to internal stakeholders, partnering with operations to resolve any outstanding accounting issues
  • Provide operational level analysis on monthly financials and trends and highlight the areas for improvement
  • Identify and analyze monthly budget variances and provide explanations to the Divisional Controller
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of the annual budget
  • Possess a strong understanding of internal controls, their purpose and design
  • Implement and monitor accounting procedures and policies at both an operational and corporate level
  • Prepare year end working papers for auditors and provide explanations as needed
  • Answer queries from internal stakeholders about monthly financial information
  • Provide peer review of team members’ work as needed
  • Assist in continuous process improvement and ad-hoc projects

Required Experience
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required, enrolled in CPA program preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in an accounting role
  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Dealership and/or Industry experience is considered an asset
