Job description


Lockheed Martin is seeking a seasoned Data Architect, Team Lead to act as a servant leader for a high performing data management team. In this role you will define, design, and govern enterprise wide data solutions, ensure compliance with DoD/SOFSA policies, and serve as the central point of contact for all data related support requests. You will partner with data stewards, program managers, and the Data Governance Council to deliver secure, high quality data that drives mission critical decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
• Model servant leadership; coach the team, conduct peer reviews of technical artifacts, and promote autonomy without micromanagement.
• Report directly to the Data Program Manager and contribute to strategic road maps.
Architecture & Design
• Define physical/virtual data structures, security, backup & recovery specifications.
• Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models; develop ETL, reporting, and analytics pipelines.
• Select, configure, and operate the enterprise Data Management Platform (e.g., IBM Cloud Pak for Data) in line with DoD/SOFSA IT standards.
Data Governance & Quality
• Enforce formal data standard processes; maintain the metadata registry and data dictionary.
• Establish, track, and report KPIs for data quality, accessibility, security, and ROI.
• Design and maintain automated validation rules; execute data quality checks (automated & manual) and cleansing activities.
Service & Support
• Serve as the primary liaison for data related tickets; ensure timely resolution through the Service Delivery System (IT Ticket System).
• Provide Level 2 support for data queries and Service Level Agreement (SLA) compliance.
• Delegate complex issues to the Data Management team as needed.
Stakeholder Collaboration
• Partner with department data stewards to capture comprehensive data sets and document collection processes.
• Present performance metrics via SAP BusinessObjects dashboards to the Data Governance Council.
• Lead the Data Management Working Group and define data steward responsibilities and reporting structures.
Security & Compliance
• Implement data security safeguards (encryption, monitoring, access control) and ensure alignment with cybersecurity policies.
• Maintain an auditable configuration management baseline for all data dictionary changes.
Advanced Analytics & Modeling - Typical Duties
• Analyze data to extract insights and uncover actionable findings by combining the scientific method, mathematics, statistics, specialized programming, advanced analytics, AI, and storytelling.
• Conduct hypothesis testing and statistical analysis of data sources to provide actionable recommendations.
• Build predictive, prescriptive, or descriptive models in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Plan and execute complex analytical, mathematical, and statistical research that informs operational requirements.
• Design and run advanced studies using data modeling techniques, trend analysis, and custom algorithms.
• Program custom algorithms and train/evaluate machine learning models; write and document reproducible code.
• Utilize open source languages and quantitative techniques (e.g., descriptive & inferential statistics, sampling, experimental design, parametric & non parametric tests, OLS regression, generalized linear models).
• Assist integrated project teams in identifying, curating, and managing test data.
• Apply DoD/best practice cybersecurity principles, addressing cyber threats and vulnerabilities to deliver secure solutions.
Basic Qualifications
Generally has 8+ years of related experience and may have a post-secondary degree or training in a related discipline.
Bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
Designing solutions that consider computer networking concepts, protocols, network security methodologies, cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and overall cybersecurity principles.
Experience with data administration and data standardization policies and standards.
Applying data mining, data warehousing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence theory/principles.
Demonstrated understanding of network access, identity, and access management (e.g., public key infrastructure [PKI]).
Strong knowledge of programming language structures/logic and query languages such as SQL and object oriented design.
Familiarity with secure coding techniques.
Developing or recommending analytic approaches for problems with incomplete information or no precedent.
Use of outlier identification and removal techniques.
Implementing data labeling governance to improve discoverability and understandability.
Understanding and selecting appropriate cloud deployment models (private, public, hybrid) and the differences between on premises and off premises environments.
Experience in utilizing the Agile Methodology approach to systems development.

Ability to work remotely
Full-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work remotely full time at a location other than a Lockheed Martin designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a Lockheed Martin office for periodic meetings.
Work Schedule Information
Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
National Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $145,200 - $255,990. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
Premium Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $167,000 - $289,340. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
