Role Summary
Owns day-to-day content operations for a high-traffic public internet site and companion intranet built on Drupal. Publishes, updates, and governs content in accordance with an approved publications manual, editorial standards, and federal accessibility law, ensuring every posting is accurate, timely, and Section 508 conformant before it reaches the public.
Key Responsibilities
• Author, stage, schedule, and publish content in Drupal (nodes, media, taxonomy, menus, blocks, views, workflow states) across public and internal sites.
• Enforce content governance: style guide, metadata/taxonomy standards, plain-language requirements, link integrity, and archival/retirement of stale content.
• Remediate documents and web content for Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA conformance - heading structure, alt text, tagged and accessible PDFs, color contrast, table markup, form labels.
• Run and triage accessibility and link scans using approved tooling; log findings, remediate, and return non-conformant source documents to business owners.
• Coordinate content release calendars with communications stakeholders and development sprints; support emergency and time-sensitive postings.
• Maintain content inventories, publication logs, and audit-ready evidence of review and approval.
• Support bilingual (English/Spanish) content publication and translation workflows.
• Provide Tier 2 support for content-related tickets in an enterprise ITSM system.
• Maintain publishing workflows and content records in DOL-approved collaboration and ticketing tools, including Jira/Confluence and ServiceNow where applicable; support audit-ready traceability from request through publication.
• Validate public and intranet content across current and previous major browser versions and responsive form factors; coordinate remediation of broken links, rendering defects, and accessibility findings before release.
• Support WHD Section 508 data calls, recurring accessibility scans, and publication reporting, including tracking remediated and pending HTML, PDF, DOCX, PPT, multimedia, and other content.
Required Skills & Experience
• 4+ years administering content in an enterprise CMS, with 2+ years hands-on in Drupal 9/10 as a content administrator or site builder.
• Demonstrated Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA content remediation experience, including accessible document (Word/PDF) remediation.
• Working knowledge of HTML5, CSS, and basic JavaScript sufficient to diagnose and correct rendering and markup issues.
• Experience with accessibility validation tooling (e.g., ANDI, NVDA/JAWS, axe, automated compliance scanners).
• Familiarity with web analytics and using traffic/search data to drive content improvements.
• Strong editorial judgment, plain-language writing, and attention to detail in a compliance-driven publishing environment.
• Experience working in Agile sprints and tracking work in Jira or an equivalent tool.
• Experience supporting high-volume public-sector publishing operations and maintaining publication logs, approvals, and content inventories.
• Ability to work with DOL/Government-approved tools and secure AI capabilities only; no use of public generative AI with sensitive or non-public information.
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior federal or other public-sector web publishing experience.
• Experience with digital analytics platforms and enterprise search tuning.
• Trusted Tester certification or equivalent accessibility credential.
• Exposure to AI-assisted content workflows (summarization, tagging, translation QA).
Education
Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Information Systems, or a related field; additional relevant experience may substitute for degree.
