Access Control Technician (Access Cards / Keys / Minor Lock Work)
Position Summary
The Access Control & Locksmith Technician is responsible for managing building access credentials, cutting and issuing keys, performing minor lock repairs and maintenance, and supporting the day-to-day operation of electronic access control systems. This position helps maintain a secure environment by ensuring proper access management for tenants (we like to use the term Customers), employees, vendors, and visitors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Issue, program, activate, and deactivate employee and tenant access cards.
  • Maintain accurate records of cardholder access levels, key assignments, and lock inventories.
  • Cut, duplicate, and distribute building keys in accordance with security procedures.
  • Perform minor locksmith duties including:
    • Replacing lock cylinders
    • Adjusting door hardware and closers
    • Troubleshooting minor lock and door issues
  • Assist with operation and troubleshooting of electronic access control systems and badge readers.
  • Coordinate with property management, security, and vendors regarding access requests and security concerns.
  • Monitor and maintain access control databases and credential records.
  • Respond to lockouts and access-related service calls.
  • Support building security initiatives and maintain confidentiality regarding access credentials and security systems.
  • Conduct periodic audits of keys, cards, and access permissions.
  • Assist with maintaining compliance with company security policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of access control systems and electronic badge systems.
  • Basic understanding of door hardware, locks, and keying systems.
  • Experience cutting keys and performing minor locksmith work preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot access control and door hardware issues.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive security information professionally and confidentially.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems and access management software.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with commercial office or multi-tenant building operations.
  • Familiarity with systems such as AMAG, Feenics or similar access control platforms.
  • Locksmith or security industry experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to walk properties, climb ladders, and work around doors and hardware.
  • Ability to use hand tools and key cutting equipment safely.

Work Environment
  • Commercial office, mixed-use, or campus-style environment.
  • May require occasional after-hours support for emergencies or access issues.
