Overview
UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's
Location: June E. Nylen Cancer Center
Hours: PRN (As needed)
Administers radiation therapy by exposing specific areas of the patient's body to prescribed doses of radiation. Maintain detailed records of all therapy sessions, noting on the patient's chart such information as the area treated, the radiation dosage, equipment control settings, the patient's reactions, and the total amount of radiation received to date while delivering excellence patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for working knowledge of the operational methods and safety standards of all equipment producing ionizing radiation within the department (ie: linear accelerator and simulator). Therapists will be responsible for delivering therapeutic doses to patients.
  • Participates in the construction/preparation of immobilization, beam directional and beam modification devices.
  • Performs tumor localization; makes changes/adjustments to ports as required by physicians via manual or electronic methods.
  • Reports patient progress and observes patients for side effects or complications and reports appropriately to nurse/and or physician.
  • Schedules patients to assure maximum efficiency and productivity relative to personnel and machine resources.
  • Administers contract agents according to procedure guidelines and states correct flow rates utilizing power injector.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of Radiation Therapy
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years' experience as a staff therapist preferred and current knowledge of appropriate clinical practice, radiation protection and quality assurance, patient management and care, charges, basic dosimetry and equipment.
License(s)/Certification(s):
ARRT registration in Radiation Therapy required
Iowa Permit to Practice as a Radiation Therapist required
