Upward Bound Programs at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as a TRIO Academic Coordinator. The anticipated start date is October 1, 2026.
Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in the Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a wide range of outdoor recreation activities. RESPONSIBILITIES: The TRIO Academic Coordinator for the Upward Bound Programs supports the implementation and delivery of services in accordance with established program objectives, policies, procedures, and grant requirements. The TRIO Academic Coordinator provides academic and college access support to participants who are low-income, potential first-generation college students, or otherwise meet federal TRIO eligibility requirements. Responsibilities include teaching and advising participants, monitoring academic progress, developing and delivering academic and college access curriculum, assisting with recruitment and eligibility determination, and coordinating services with program staff, families, university personnel, and participating schools.
The position requires regular travel to assigned schools and program sites and flexibility to work evenings and weekends. The TRIO Academic Coordinator also supervises minor participants during program activities, overnight educational travel, weekend events, and the six-week residential Summer Academy, including one week of on-call responsibilities. The position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet grant deadlines, respond appropriately to participant needs and crisis situations, and maintain a supportive, structured, and confidential environment for participants.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree required. Good written and oral communication skills, leadership abilities, and proven interpersonal skills are essential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree. Previous experience in working with economically and educationally disadvantaged students. Planning and implementation of counseling programs and/or curriculum development for disadvantaged students is helpful. Supervisory experience is desired.

Organizational Relationships
The TRIO Academic Coordinator reports directly to the Director, Upward Bound Programs. The TRIO Academic Coordinator interacts with school, college and community agency administrators, guidance counselors, faculty, staff, students and parents, as well as other personnel, co-workers, university faculty and staff in the coordination, planning and implementation of program services.
Physical Requirements
Working Conditions
Long hours, weekend duties, overnight trips with TRIO participants, numerous interruptions with phone calls and participant drop-ins, and faculty and staff consultations are typical. Pressure from job deadlines, grant proposals, coordination of classes, paperwork, and student contacts can create a great deal of stress. Travel to assigned work sites/schools is required. One week on call and evening hours required during the summer academy. Working hours average 40-50 hours per week. The program is located in an office building that houses several other programs so flexibility and cordiality are important traits. Program confidentiality is mandatory for the implementation of the program into the University system.
