Special Education Teacher (SPED) – New Brunswick, New Jersey

Sunbelt Staffing is hiring an experienced Special Education Teacher (SPED) for a full-time, school-based opportunity for the 2026–2027 school year. This position is ideal for educators with a strong background in autism services who are passionate about supporting young learners in a structured, collaborative classroom environment.

Job Details

  • Position: Special Education Teacher (SPED)
  • Location: New Brunswick, NJ 08901
  • Start Date: September 2, 2026
  • End Date: End of School Year
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Hours: Full-time
  • School Assignment: 1 campus

Caseload & Responsibilities

  • Serve students in Pre-K through 1st Grade
  • Self-contained Autism classroom
  • Caseload of approximately 6–8 students
  • Support a primarily nonverbal, high-needs student population
  • Work alongside 2 paraprofessionals in the classroom
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including BCBAs, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and other support staff
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Deliver specialized instruction that promotes functional communication, positive behavior, and student independence
  • Maintain accurate documentation and participate in IEP meetings
  • Utilize evidence-based strategies to support students with autism and complex communication needs

Qualifications

  • Active New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) certification required
  • Active PreK–3 Teaching Certificate required (K–6 certification will not be accepted)
  • Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH) certification will also be considered when paired with the required credential
  • Previous autism classroom experience is required
  • Experience supporting nonverbal students and implementing behavior interventions is strongly preferred
  • Must meet all state and district employment requirements
