Job description

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic Resources, the person selected for this position is responsible for coordinating academic accommodations, providing guidance, and advocating for students seeking accommodations, in compliance with ADA laws. Responsibilities include reviewing documentation, facilitating the interactive process used to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations, and maintaining records of students who register for accommodations. In addition, the coordinator may be responsible for assisting the Associate Dean in managing the day-to-day operations of the CULearn tutoring program, representing CULearn at various campus events, and developing and implementing academic support programs and initiatives. This position is located in River Forest, IL.

Responsibilities:

Communication

  • Collaboration with faculty and staff required to effectively promote academic support resources is critical for student success.

Accessibility Services

  • Coordinate disability-related academic accommodations in line with approved documentation
  • Conduct intake meetings with students to assess functional impacts and accommodation needs
  • Develop, implement, and review individualized accommodation plans
  • Liaise with faculty, academic departments, and support services to facilitate accommodations
  • Educate students on self-advocacy, rights, and available support services
  • Maintain confidential student records and documentation in accordance with privacy regulations
  • Ensure compliance with relevant disability and accessibility legislation
  • Support students through academic transitions and challenges
  • Contribute to accessibility initiatives, training, and awareness across the college
  • Track, assess, and report accessibility services data

Develop and Coordinate Academic Support Programming

  • Coordinate and promote CULearn services
  • Teach a section of COL-100 with a focus on study-skills and mentoring
  • Survey, assess, and report program outcomes

CULearn Ambassador

  • Represent CULearn at undergraduate orientations, admitted student day, visit days and other recruitment initiatives for incoming students and their families
  • Conference with prospective students and their families during admission tours on an as-needed basis

Student Support Specialist

  • Serve as a mentor and resource for all students, and especially those who receive learning accommodations or who are on academic probation
  • Assist in the management of Navigate Alerts

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Disability Studies, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field

Skill Sets:

Required

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in a post-secondary setting
  • Knowledge of ADA, Section 504, and reasonable accommodation practices
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality
  • Ability to meet deadlines and problem-solve effectively
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a small, collaborative team
  • Commitment to supporting the needs of students, especially those from underrepresented populations
  • Commitment to supporting students in a faith-informed, inclusive learning environment

Preferred

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience at a small college or faith-based institution
  • Familiarity with learning disabilities, ADHD, mental health conditions, chronic illness, and neurodiversity
  • Bilingual Spanish is preferred but not required
  • Ability to communicate using American Sign Language is preferred, but not required
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Technologically proficient- knowledge of university information systems is a plus
