Job description
The Hampton University Department of Education and Department of Counseling invites nominations and applications for Coordinator of Graduate Programs at the rank of Assistant - Associate Professor.
Founded in 1868, Hampton University is a leading historically black university (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. It is a privately endowed, co-educational, nonsectarian institution.
The Department of Education offers an array of teacher education programs, including an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an option leading to endorsement in Elementary Education at the PreK-6 level; Master in Teaching (M.T.) degrees with Secondary Education endorsements at the 6-12 level in Biology, English, Mathematics, and PK-12 endorsement in Music; Master of Arts in Educational Leadership; and the Ph.D. in Educational Management. The Master of Arts in Educational Leadership offers PK-12 and higher education concentrations, and the Ph.D. in Educational Management offers PK-12 education, higher education, STEM leadership, and special education administration concentrations.
The Department of Counseling offers PhD program in Counselor Education and Supervision, Educational Specialist, MA in Counseling with concentrations in Community Mental Health, Additions, College Student Affairs, School Counseling, Pastoral Counseling and General Counseling.
Job Duties:
- The Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of operations that will typically include as follows:
- Provide intellectual leadership to articulate the vision for program and guidance related to substantiate issues in program Graduate student recruitment and admissions, including coordination and oversight of the evaluation of admissions applications and specific program guidelines & requirements
- Oversee the progress of enrolled students and communicate with students about progress, manage communications between the department and graduate students, both new and continuing
- Recommend probation and separation, when appropriate, to the Graduate College
- Oversee the administration of the comprehensive exams and its requirements and review and approve students for candidacy
- Educate students and colleagues about Graduate College policies and enforce the same
- Review and edit the department graduate handbook and other graduate program forms and materials
- Ensure that proper paperwork is submitted by students in a timely manner
- Work with the department chair to appoint dissertation chairs and recommend adjunct faculty
- Collaborate with the department chair as appropriate to facilitate graduate student mentorship and advisement and mediation of student issues as necessary
- Responsible for accurate and appropriate management of data and maintenance of graduate student records and graduate program documents
- Coordinate graduate curriculum development, as well as new program proposals and program changes with program faculty as needed
- Collaborate on the development and implementation of mentorship and professional development programs
- Supervise graduation requirements and procedures related to culminating experiences.
- Coordinate completion and submission of CAEP and CACREP Institutional Report for Advanced Programs
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Education and or Counseling
- experience with CAEP and CACREP accreditation
- 5-7 years of teaching at the University level
- School counselor designation
- Relevant research and publications.
Requirements:
- The Coordinator of Graduate Programs reports to the Chair of the Department of Education/ Chair of Department of Counseling and oversees the Ph.D.in Educational Management, PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision and the M.A. Programs. The Coordinator of Graduate Programs for the Department of Education and Counseling has three critical roles: (1) maintain academic integrity, quality, and viability of the programs ;(2) promote the educational, research, and career success of graduate students; and (3) provide leadership, supervision and coordination for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation Advanced Programs.
- The Coordinator will serve as the liaison between the Department, faculty, and Graduate Council to coordinate and implement the procedures and policies for graduate programs; facilitate recruitment and admissions; monitor student progress; prepare annual program assessment reports and analyze and interpret trends; and use feedback to make program improvements. The Coordinator will model and encourage excellence in research, scholarship, teaching, and use program review to update the curriculum.
- The Coordinator will serve as the initial advisor for all newly admitted graduate students making all decisions that impact the matriculation before students find a mentor and form a committee. The Coordinator will advise and assist students in developing professional networks, funded fellowship opportunities, work with dissertation chairs to provide useful feedback to increase timely completion of degree program.
- The Coordinator will provide leadership and supervision to advance assessment initiatives for all graduate programs; have in-depth knowledge of CAEP/CACREP accreditation standards, processes, and procedures; and provide leadership and support to faculty and programs regarding best practices in assessment design, implementation, interpretation of results, and analysis to guide improvements.
Salary is based on qualifications $60,000-$85,933
