The starting base salary range for a Sr. Director- Absence Product Management $137,000 to $180,000. Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance.

Senior Director-Product Management Overview

As a Senior Director of Disability and Absence products at USAble Life, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing our Disability and Absence management product strategy. Your focus will be on developing, managing and enhancing products and services related to Short-and Long-term Disability, FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), Paid Family & Medical Leave, Employer Leaves, and general leave management. These offerings will be positioned alongside our Life and Supplemental insurance products.

In this role you will direct the product team and oversee the development and management of assigned product lines and vendor relationships and serve as the Business Lead and Sponsor for select projects, and facilitate cross-functional communications on product impacts throughout the organization.

Product management responsibilities include management, monitoring and positioning of new and existing product lines and product performance, evaluation of industry trends and identification of new and improved product and innovation opportunities.

The Senior Director will serve as a key resource for sales and marketing on product and industry information. Vendor management duties include vendor selection, renewal activities, contract negotiation, monitoring and reporting for service standards and deliverables.

Essential Duties:

  • Develops and executes product strategy, analysis and recommendations to align with strategic business goals, collaboration with peers and senior management
  • Manages and develops product staff, assists and directs team on all relevant projects
  • Monitors market and customer needs and pain points, industry research and competitor trends and regulatory and compliance information
  • Identifies new product innovation and enhancement and development opportunities
  • Develops business case, project submission and implementation plans in conjunction with organizational resources
  • Defines product requirements, features, and functionality, as well as operational model to effectively support the business
  • Work closely with Claims, Legal, and Compliance peers to ensure monitoring and compliance with state and federal laws
  • Oversee the product development lifecycle, from concept to launch and ensures planning and execution includes upstream and downstream impacts to USAble Life, customers and Partners
  • Works with Marketing, Sales and Partners to ensure an effective go to market planning and product launch
  • Works with Pricing and Underwriting to determine product pricing model, and to analyze on-going product performance
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Communicates effectively and frequently regarding product initiatives and issues
  • Serves as a key resource for sales and marketing on product and industry information and product positioning and marketing
  • Creates product filings to meet state regulations if applicable
  • Prioritizes and balances product workload to meet business demands
  • Participates in department management and planning
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of group Disability and Absence products and landscape, markets, players, metrics, etc.
  • Advanced collaboration skills that support the cross-functional integration of new products into the customer lifecycle
  • Knowledge of underwriting, pricing administration/operations systems/processes, and compliance procedures
  • Experience developing cost/benefit analysis for new products and options
  • A global approach to problem-solving and decision making
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills including the ability to address a wide range of audiences
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work within time constraints
  • Experience working with employees at all levels, particularly senior management to influence strategy and negotiate and sell ideas
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Power Point, among other technologies
  • Dynamic, motivating, and entrepreneurial minded with an internal drive to continuously hit goals and deadlines
  • Ability to manage, mentor and inspire employees to improve performance and create a supportive work environment
  • Knowledge of product development processes

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10-12 years in the employee benefits insurance industry
  • 5-7 years management experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • MBA, ASA or FSA a plus
  • 5+ years as a product manager preferred
