Adjunct ABE/ESL Instructor
Part-Time, Non-Tenure

Yakima Valley College seeks innovative adjunct ABE and ESL Instructors committed to community college students and their success. This part-time, non-tenure track position may be assigned to the Yakima Campus, Grandview Campus, Toppenish Learning Center, or Ellensburg Learning Center.
Reporting to the Dean - College and Career Readiness, the adjunct ABE and ESL Instructors will be accomplished and active in their discipline, committed to participating in a multicultural, interdisciplinary learning environment, and skilled in the technology of learning and research.
The ABE/ESL instructor will possess an educational preparation and professional experience appropriate for this position.
Essential Tasks
JOB PROFILE:
  • Plan, implement, and monitor instruction for individuals and groups
  • Accurately complete, maintain, and submit student and class records in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively in writing and speaking in English
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and the public to create a positive classroom environment
  • Use a computer for word processing, instruction and communication with the college
  • Comply with all college, state and federal rules, regulations, and laws including but not limited to, those governing student and personnel records

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • An earned Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in an Adult Basic Education field.
  • Two years recent synchronous teaching experience (classroom and/or online) in mathematics, Language Arts, or ESL.
  • Experience working successfully with students of varied skill levels and diverse backgrounds.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A graduate degree with significant training in mathematics, reading, English, and/or ESL.
  • A clear commitment to community college and adult education philosophies.
  • Experience or interest in using a variety of student-centered instructional and assessment techniques.
  • Experience or interest in curriculum development and assessment of outcomes-based learning.
  • Successful experience advising students, developing course material and schedules.
  • A demonstrated commitment in continuing their education through participation in professional development.
  • Experience with word processing and educational software using a learning management system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching and learning environment that honors diversity, equity and inclusion.
