What You'll Work On
The Advanced Development Engineer is responsible for formulating, evaluating, and advancing research and development concepts, programs, and technical approaches that enable profitable growth and strategic technology differentiation.
  • Serves as a senior individual contributor that provides deep technical leadership and hands-on expertise to design and develop early-stage product.
  • Collaborates closely with internal and external partners including manufacturing, suppliers, intellectual property management, regulatory, and customers to ensure development activities are aligned with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Provides expert support in developing, diagnosing, and resolving complex design opportunities.
  • Contributes to divisional and business unit strategy by shaping technology roadmaps, assessing technical feasibility, evaluating risks and opportunities across platforms, and enabling technology initiatives.
  • Participates as a subject matter expert in cross-functional technical reviews and business planning reviews.
  • Tracks and forecasts technology projects, ensuring transparency, alignment, and informed decision-making across the organization.
  • Mentor peers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving, without direct people management responsibility.
  • Provides strong collaboration, influence, and communication across all levels of the organization and is essential to successfully advance innovation and technical excellence.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering / related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Master's Degree is preferred
  • Minimum 12 years of related work experience with a solid understanding of specified functional area

Preferred Qualifications
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical field
  • 15+ years of industry experience in R&D with deep focus on mechanical design of complex, multi-discipline systems
  • 5+ years as a Mechanical Technical Lead or Architect, guiding design direction and trade-off decisions
  • Proven experience developing Class III medical devices, preferably implantable systems (e.g., neurostimulators, pacemakers, defibrillators)
  • Demonstrated experience with end-to-end medical innovation frameworks from need identification through concept development
  • Strong background in needs assessment, concept generation, mechanical architecture, and early risk reduction (DFMEA, prototyping, simulations)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
