Position Overview:
A Stevedore / Longshoreman loads, unloads, moves, and secures cargo at the port. This job follows clear work steps to improve safety, reduce mistakes, cut delays, and improve quality. The role includes physical work, equipment use, inspections, and teamwork to keep cargo moving the right way every time.
Key Responsibilities:
Cargo Handling
  • Load and unload cargo from ships, trucks, and railcars by following clear work steps.
  • Secure cargo with ropes, slings, and other tools to prevent damage and movement.
  • Place and store cargo in the right location to improve flow, save space, and keep loads balanced.
  • Watch for waste, delays, rework, or unsafe conditions and report them.

Equipment Operation
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and other equipment safely and correctly.
  • Check equipment before use and report problems quickly to reduce downtime and defects.

Inspection and Safety Compliance
  • Inspect cargo for damage, wrong counts, or other problems and report them right away.
  • Follow safety rules and standard procedures every time to reduce risk and prevent errors.
  • Wear always required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Team Collaboration
  • Work with supervisors, operators, and team members to keep work safe, steady, and on time.
  • Share clear information to avoid mistakes and support smooth handoffs.
  • Suggest simple ways to improve quality, safety, and speed.

Documentation
  • Record cargo counts, types, and condition clearly and correctly.
  • Complete shipping and receiving paperwork on time and without errors.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Physical strength and stamina to lift, move, and handle cargo safely.
  • Attention to detail to follow work steps, check quality, and reduce errors.
  • Ability to follow standard procedures and do the job the same safe way each time.
  • Teamwork and clear communication in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Willingness to report problems and suggest better ways to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in port, shipping, warehouse, or logistics work.
