Job Summary

The licensed Radiology Assistant supports the NCPS Radiology Department by performing delegated patient-care and imaging-related duties under the supervision of a Florida-licensed Radiologist and in accordance with department policies and applicable state and federal regulations. This role prepares patients for diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures, obtains and documents relevant clinical information, and assists with patient positioning and workflow to promote timely, high-quality care. The Radiology Assistant helps maintain a safe environment by applying radiation safety principles, infection prevention practices, and equipment safety checks. The position requires strong communication and collaboration with radiologists, technologists, nurses, and other clinical staff to ensure an excellent patient experience.

Job Specific Duties

  • Performs delegated clinical tasks under the supervision of a Florida-licensed radiologist who acts as the collaborative practitioner consistent with applicable Florida statutes/rules, facility policies, and approved protocols.
  • Prepares patients for imaging and image-guided procedures by verifying orders, confirming patient identification, collecting relevant history, and ensuring required labs/consents/screens are complete per protocol.
  • Positions patients and assists with immobilization, monitoring, and patient comfort measures throughout procedures.
  • Assists the radiologist and/or radiologic technologist with procedural setup, room readiness, and workflow coordination, including timeout/support activities as assigned.
  • Maintains accurate, timely documentation in the medical record, including pre-procedure assessment elements and post-procedure instructions as applicable to delegated duties.
  • Applies radiation safety practices, ensures appropriate shielding/signage, and supports adherence to ALARA and facility radiation protection policies.
  • Performs equipment and supply checks; reports malfunctions and coordinates service requests per department process.
  • Follows infection prevention standards, including cleaning/disinfection of equipment and rooms between patients and safe handling of sterile supplies as assigned.
  • Communicates critical or time-sensitive information to the supervising practitioner and care team; participates in handoffs and coordination of follow-up care.
  • Responds appropriately to emergent situations (e.g., contrast reaction, patient deterioration) by activating emergency response and providing BLS within scope.
  • Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory readiness activities, including incident reporting and competency/continuing education requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with training, competency validation, and scope of practice.
Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Associates degree or higher in a healthcare or imaging-related field (as required by the educational pathway and/or credentialing body)
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.) program or other radiology assistant educational program that meets eligibility requirements for Florida Department of Health (DOH) Radiologic Technology certification in the Radiologist Assistant category
  • Active Florida Department of Health (DOH) Radiology Assistant certification (state certificate) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Registry of Rad Tech (ARRT) - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Level II Background Check
  • Successful completion of credentialing by NCHS Medical Administration

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of radiographic anatomy, pathology, and medical terminology relevant to imaging services in the pediatric population.
  • Working knowledge of radiation biology, radiation protection, ALARA principles, and fluoroscopy safety practices.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention, sterile technique concepts, and safe patient handling/positioning.
  • Ability to obtain, assess, and document pertinent patient history, allergies, labs, and contraindications (e.g., contrast-related considerations) per protocol.
  • Skill in patient preparation, communication, and education to support comfort, safety, and cooperation.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and escalate concerns promptly using appropriate clinical judgment.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), RIS/PACS workflows, and basic office software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage interruptions, and maintain attention to detail in a regulated environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and facility policies.
