Description:

The A&P Mechanic reports to the Director of Maintenance/General Manager of the Jet Group.


WORKING CONDITIONS


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment can be very loud on occasion.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Work alone in performing inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance on a fleet of trainer aircraft for Central Flight Academy.


DUTIES AND TASKS

  • Perform maintenance duties on trainer aircraft as defined under FAR Part 43, including but not limited to: oil changes, brake pad replacement, tire changes, replacing spark plugs, servicing batteries, lubrication and inspection of systems, changing filters, replacing light bulbs, and other duties as assigned.
  • Have knowledge of calendar, hourly, and progressive inspection procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and perform needed repairs to airframe components, engines, and a variety of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs to other aircraft accessories such as starter/generators, fuel pumps, hydraulic pumps, actuators, wheels, tires, and brakes. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and report findings of discrepancies to appropriate personnel.
  • Consult and get a plan of action approved before spending more than thirty minutes troubleshooting a problem.
  • Seek out discrepancies on the aircraft and report them to the DOM or his designee. Write maintenance forms (squawks) on all discrepancies found.
  • Repair or replace defective or malfunctioning parts or systems
  • Perform structural repairs to airframe including sheet metal work, riveting, patching, and fiberglass/composite repairs
  • Ensure that all maintenance to be performed has been approved for work
  • Operate all power tools and equipment necessary to accomplish a job assignment
  • Accurately tag and store items removed from the aircraft during the dismantling phase
  • Make required logbook entries of repairs and comply with all company and FAA requirements
  • Document descriptively, the findings found during inspections in appropriate location
  • Complete all required maintenance records and turn the aircraft binders into Maintenance Control at the end of each shift.
  • Respect the confidentiality of company, customer, and personnel information
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors and other staff members
  • Demonstrate ability to tactfully handle difficult situations
  • Recognize and deal with priorities.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Director of maintenance



Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Licensing/Registration/Certification

  • Required: Airframe and Power plant Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License

Experience

  • Required: One – 3 years maintaining General Aviation Aircraft.

Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to the customers or employees of organization

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts and to apply concepts of basic math


Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
