Industrial Paint Robotics Programmer
Location: Charlestown, Indiana
Schedule: Day shift, 6:30 a.m. โ 3:30 p.m.
A day in the role
You start your morning bringing a bank of 6โaxis robots online in our paint department, reviewing yesterdayโs quality data and making micro-adjustments to paths and spray parameters. You fine-tune gun distance, trigger timing, and fan patterns, then run a short prove-out to verify film build, adhesion, and appearance meet OEM specs. When a defect trend appears, you dive into root-cause analysisโchecking applicator settings, fluid delivery pressures, and path overlapโto get the line back to peak performance with minimal downtime.
Midday, you calibrate an applicator, update programs on a FANUC controller, and document the change in standard work. Preventive maintenance on EOAT and secondary equipment keeps the cell reliable. You close out with a clean handoff: updated robot programs, setup sheets, and notes so the next run is repeatable and consistent.
What youโll own
- Programming, editing, and optimizing 6โaxis robot paths (FANUC or comparable) for automated coating applications.
- Dialing in paint variablesโgun standoff, trigger points, fan width/patternโto achieve target coverage and finish.
- Independent setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of automated spray equipment, fluid delivery systems, and applicators.
- Rapid issue resolution to cut downtime and stabilize processes.
- Preventive maintenance and repair for EOAT, paint robots, and auxiliary devices.
- Verification that OEM finish requirements are met, including film build, adhesion, and visual standards.
- Accurate version control of robot programs, standard work, and setup documentation.
What you bring
- 3โ5 years in an automated manufacturing setting working directly with paint robotics.
- Hands-on skill programming and troubleshooting 6โaxis robots (FANUC or similar platforms).
- Analytical problem-solving with proven root-cause analysis of coating/paint defects.
- Background with automated multi-pass spray, powder coating, or liquid paint systems.
- Working knowledge of fluid delivery and coating application processes.
