Caregivers provide nonmedical service and assistance to a client in their home and community,ย who, because of advanced age or physical or mental disability, cannot perform these services. Theseย services enable the client to remain in his/her residence. Therefore, the caregiver must feel comfortable caring for a client in a private home or setting. The Caregivers main objective is client satisfaction andย safety for both oneself and for the client. The Caregiver must have sensitivity for the needs of others, aย professional manner, and a positive attitude. Aides are responsible for ensuring that service is deliveredย in a caring and respectful manner, in accordance with relevant Agency polices, industry standards, andย state regulations. Aides needs to report on time to scheduled shift unless specific circumstances comeย up.ย
Key Responsibilities
The Caregiver provides service to a client based on and limited to a clientโs care plan developed by the RN, the client, and/or the clientโs family. The care plan is based on an assessment of the clientโs needs for services, developed in conjunction with a functional assessment and with the input from the client and/or clientโs family. Caregiver services are tasks that are necessitated by a clientโs disability or chronic condition that limits the clientโs ability to perform functional activities or daily living (ADLโs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLโs). Caregiver services vary depending on the needs and requirements of each individual ย client. ย Client ย needs ย and ย requirements ย are ย documented through ย the ย clientโs ย functional assessment. These services involve direct care from cueing/prompting to total assistance.ย Caregivers will provide excellent client care including, but not limited to, assistance with the following:
- Ambulationย
- Personal Hygieneย
- Feedingย

- Vital Signs and Blood Pressure
- Range of Motionย

A Sample of What Caregivers Provide:ย
- Ensure clientโs safety and security by supervising the home environment
- Teach/Perform Meal Planning and Preparation and serving the clientย
- Routine Housekeeping activities such as making/changing bedding, dusting, vacuuming, washingย floors, cleaning kitchen and bathroom, and laundry. Household tasks should not exceed 20% of time worked per shift unless the client has a Housekeeping Authorization.ย
- Provide Companionship including social interactions, conversations, emotional reassurance, and encouragement of activities that simulate the mind.ย
- Provide respite care for families in accordance with care plansย
- Escort clients to medical facilities, errands, shopping, and outings as specified in the care plan*
- Assist clients with communication by writing or typing correspondence for them or researching information for them.ย
- Notifies agency when unable to work scheduled assignments โ 24 hour notification required.
- Monitor supplies and resources.
- Follow the written care plan and works all hours as established by Supervisor.
- Carry out duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Submits written documentation to the office, as required.
- Attend orientation, in-service training sessions, and staff meetings.
- Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
- Communicate regularly with Supervisor and co-workers.
- Observe, receive, and obtain information from relevant sources.
- Report any incidents or accidents immediately to Supervisor.
- Consistently follows Code of Conduct and policies as set for in the Employee Handbook.
- Maintain clientโs protected health information confidential and observes all clientโs rights.
- Report, detect, and prevent abuse and neglect.
