COMPANY DESCRIPTION: Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. We are dedicated to serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and providing comprehensive emergency and long-term services to help them escape the dangerous streets of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM is now one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. DRIVER CLASS-C POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Class C Driver is responsible for operating a box truck to complete donation pick-ups and for providing transportation to residents and staff as needed.


DRIVER CLASS-C CORE WORK PRINCIPLE: Colossians 3:23 is the foundation of URM’s standard for employment, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.” The goal for each employee is to enrich and sustain a humble heart attitude; to enrich and sustain a mindset of serving others, treating them with kindness and truth; and to enrich and sustain a zealous desire for achieving work objectives without any ulterior motives or agendas.


DRIVER CLASS-C ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Pick up donations from various locations and physically load and unload at distribution facilities or thrift stores.
  • Maintain records by completing driver logs and donor receipts.
  • Deliver food and products to URM’s other locations on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain safe vehicle operation.
  • Assist at the Distribution Facilities, as needed.
  • Provide transportation for staff and guests to and from the mission, as needed.
  • Conduct other tasks and projects as assigned by the Dir., Procurement & Logistics/Transportation Manager.
  • Commitment to URM mission, vision, and core values.
  • Encourage guests in their faith and growth in Jesus Christ.

DRIVER CLASS-C PHYSICAL DEMANDS: In general, the following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Must be able to lift 75 lbs.

DRIVER CLASS-C WORK ENVIRONMENT: In general, the following conditions of the work environment are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.   • This position does drive out on the roadways in all weather conditions – sun, wind, rain etc.; will also encounter traffic hazards and various road conditions.


Requirements:

DRIVER CLASS-C EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES:

  • High School Degree, GED, or 3 years’ equivalent work experience.
  • Must have at least 1 year's driving experience.
  • Must have a valid Class C driver's license.

DRIVER CLASS-C KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to see, hear, speak, and write clearly to communicate with others.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to be added to the company’s Insurance policy.
  • Must submit to a random drug test required by the California Department of Transportation.
  • Must have the ability to organize workload for effective implementation.
  • Background in customer service, a plus.
