Job description

Position Overview
MetroSys is seeking a versatile and service-oriented IT Systems Administrator to support the day-to-day technology operations of a school and administrative environment. This role is responsible for maintaining servers, end-user devices, identity platforms, backup systems, and core business applications while providing responsive support to faculty, staff, and other users.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working across Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Active Directory, endpoint management, and server infrastructure. This individual will serve as a hands-on technical resource responsible for monitoring system health, resolving incidents, maintaining device compliance, and supporting the ongoing reliability of the organization's technology environment.
Key Responsibilities
Server Monitoring and Administration
  • Monitor the health, availability, and performance of supported physical and virtual servers.
  • Review system alerts, event logs, and identified failures.
  • Administer Windows Server patching and coordinate updates according to established maintenance schedules.
  • Coordinate server reboots with onsite technical resources to minimize business disruption.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and basic server troubleshooting.
  • Maintain operational reports related to patching, performance, incidents, and service metrics.
  • Escalate complex server, hardware, or application issues to vendors or senior engineering resources when necessary.
End-User Support and Incident Management
  • Provide onsite and remote technical support for faculty, staff, and administrative users.
  • Respond to incidents and service requests involving:
    • Windows and macOS desktops
    • Windows and macOS laptops
    • iPads and other iPadOS devices
    • Chromebooks and ChromeOS devices
    • Printers, peripherals, and approved classroom technologies
  • Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, application, authentication, and connectivity issues.
  • Document incidents, resolutions, and recurring technical issues within the service management platform.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for technologies requiring manufacturer or application-provider support.
  • Provide best-effort assistance for systems outside the defined support environment.
Workstation and Endpoint Management
  • Monitor endpoint performance and device health.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on managed workstations.
  • Administer Windows operating system patching.
  • Maintain endpoint antivirus and malware protection.
  • Remediate identified security, performance, and configuration issues.
  • Track hardware, software licenses, and managed device inventory.
  • Assist with device provisioning, deployment, replacement, and retirement.
  • Prepare monthly environment health and endpoint status reports.
iPad and Chromebook Administration
  • Manage iPads and Chromebooks through the applicable device management platforms.
  • Provision, image, reset, and reassign devices.
  • Manage device security settings, applications, updates, and policies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and ownership records.
  • Support classroom and instructional technology requirements.
  • Troubleshoot device enrollment, authentication, connectivity, and application issues.
Directory and Identity Services
  • Administer user accounts within Active Directory and Google Workspace.
  • Create, modify, disable, and remove user accounts based on approved requests.
  • Manage passwords, security groups, organizational units, access permissions, and distribution groups.
  • Support employee and student onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Troubleshoot login, access, synchronization, and identity-related issues.
  • Maintain appropriate account access and security controls.
Backup and Disaster Recovery
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain the organization's on-premises backup solution.
  • Review backup jobs and investigate failed or incomplete backups.
  • Perform or coordinate file and system recovery requests.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of a Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Document recovery procedures and operational dependencies.
  • Recommend additional backup, retention, or recovery capabilities when appropriate.
  • Participate in periodic backup validation and recovery testing.
Core Application Support
  • Provide administration and user support for:
    • Microsoft 365
    • Google Workspace
    • Google Classroom
  • Troubleshoot email, calendar, collaboration, file-sharing, and access issues.
  • Assist with user licensing, application configuration, and platform administration.
  • Support Microsoft Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, Gmail, Google Drive, and related productivity tools.
  • Coordinate with application vendors when issues require external support.
Asset and Vendor Management
  • Maintain accurate records of managed infrastructure and end-user technology assets.
  • Track hardware warranties, licensing, and manufacturer support agreements.
  • Notify stakeholders of upcoming infrastructure support and maintenance renewals.
  • Assist with vendor coordination, support case management, and renewal planning.
  • Recommend hardware replacement or lifecycle actions based on age, supportability, and operational risk.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in systems administration, desktop support, IT operations, or managed services.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Windows and macOS devices.
  • Experience administering Active Directory and Google Workspace.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration and support.
  • Experience supporting Chromebooks, iPads, or mobile device management platforms.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server administration and patch management.
  • Experience with endpoint monitoring, antivirus, malware protection, and asset management.
  • Basic knowledge of backup administration and disaster recovery practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident-management skills.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple technical requests.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting a K-12 school, nonprofit, or education environment.
  • Familiarity with Google Classroom and education-focused Google Workspace administration.
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune, Google Admin Console, Apple School Manager, or similar management platforms.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Experience working within a managed services or outsourced IT support model.
  • Knowledge of ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, Google, or Apple certifications.
