Job description

Quality Assurance Supervisor

We are looking for a QA Supervisor to join our team based in Newburyport, MA. The position is responsible for supervising all daily production floor activities related to quality. The role coordinates quality activities, provides leadership to ensure an effective food safety and quality management system is maintained, and offers technical support with an emphasis on customer expectations, continuous improvement opportunities, and productivity requirements. The supervisor also manages QA technicians and ensures compliance with Quality Management Systems including SQF, HACCP, and GMP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervises daily activities of QA Technicians, and coach, train, and support the QA team to support business growth.
  • Provides guidance regarding quality and food safety issues to Operations and QA teams.
  • Communicates daily with FSQA Techs regarding production schedule and QA issues.
  • Maintains inventory of QC/lab supplies and coordinates training from suppliers or new equipment purchased.
  • Reviews and organizes operational paperwork on a daily basis.
  • Supports the execution of internal and third‑party audits (e.g., customer, regulatory, GFSI, etc.) and participates in inspections; analyzing the results and deficiencies found.
  • Supports Production Managers, Supervisors and Leads during formula changes and/or product issues.
  • Assists with the activities of the company hold, trace, & recall program. Responsible for summarizing Hold reports.
  • Assumes some responsibilities of the QA Manager in his/her absence.
  • Performs assignments in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), policies and procedures.
  • Supports Operations and other support teams in reducing foreign object contamination.
  • Oversees product releases.
  • Displays appropriate work ethics in the workplace and group settings which provides a positive influence on the production floor.
  • Performs daily product review and customer complaint reviews.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • BS degree or equivalent experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Previous knowledge working in food production Quality Assurance department.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Must have a flexible schedule including working weekends, as necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and clean work areas in assigned space.
  • Follows production dress code standards and maintains good personal hygiene.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is expected to actively participate on the production floor.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Stoop, kneel or bend.
  • Employee must lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and is required to ask for assistance if weight is exceeded.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 45 pounds and is required to ask for assistance if weight is exceeded.
